BOB and MARCO- Smarty High idle

Tuning Platform of Choice

Amsoil all the way. Now have more than 145,000 miles on a single oil drain and all is well. The first 105,000 was on 15W-40, the last 41,000 has been on the 5W-30. I also pay for mine joe D.

Rosmella t , I get it at Sam's. Used to use Valvoline, but switched one time because that's all that was on the shelf. My mileage went up. :-{} that.

I've gone back to Rotella 15W-40. I did use Amsoil HDD 15W-40 for a time but didn't notice any increase in mileage or any advantage at all. I did get more blowby out of my vent tube and also slight seepage out of my valve covers that I never had before.

Ditto with B-Rud

Royal Purple 15-40. Running a Amsoil singly bypass filter also so it will be in the engine for quite a while based on the oil analysis.

Delo 15-40.

If I only get 350,000 miles out of this engine, I won't be disappointed. :)

With the cost of some engine stuff, I would have to get 1,000,000 miles or more to breakeven.

Advantages

Just curious, what are the advantages to using synthetic oil, elaborate filtration systems and extended change intervals, when all you need is some good ole dino lube and change every 3k. The only advantage I can see is not having to change oil so often and maybe a slight increase in fuel mileage. I've been an amsoil user for many years but now with the quick-change oil plug and my local recycler/waste management who will pick up my used oil with my trash, changing oil every 3k is a snap. :) Oo.

If you are changing every 3K miles I would think that your engine will last longer. The synthetic is for the guys that need the extended drain interval. Sounds like you have a great system, I would not change it.
