Guys,

My dad is ready to do his first oil change on his truck and I'm wondering what you guys are running or what you recommend. My dad is thinking of using Valvoline Premium Blue or Delo. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Joe

Oil brand is probably not as important as the filter. Make sure to use one from your Cummins dealer (Fleetguard) or from the Dodge dealer. Other brands have failed and screwed up engines.

I've usually used Shell Rotella. Seems to be most available around here. (Sam's, Walmart, Auto parts stores, etc. )

Both of the oil's you mentioned are good. I use Rotella-T with fleetguard stratapore filters and thats what I will stick with.

Bighammer is right use a good filter. Cummins only certifies certain filters for use on there engines.

Do a search, this has been discussed before so you should find some good info.

We have used Delo in our trucks at work for 23 yrs with no problems. I have used Delo and am now using Valvoline P. B. both are fine oils. I also use Fleetguard Stratapore filters.

Both the oils you mentioned or great oils,Shells good too. I have used Delco in the past. At the present I am using the Valvoline PB but when I get between 15-20000 I will use Amsoil 15W40. I have around 12000 so I got a ways to go before I switch to Amsoil. Use the Fleetguard filters. I get them from Genos. Order a case and they throw in a oil filter wrench. Or if you want to pay twice the price of the filters get them from the dealer:eek:

Thanks for the quick responses my dad told me he picked up his fleetguard filter today and I'll let him know that either oil is ok including Shell Rotella.
