Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Which Overhaul Kit

I have the engine out and most all the accessories off of it. Have not removed oil pan yet. #6 piston looks really bad, cylinder has some scaring, it appears that the piston debris has attached to the liner. I think . 020 oversize will clean up the cylinder. (I will get a picture of the piston and post it tommorow night). anyway back to the subject heading which overhaul kit should I look at, has anyone had any experience with them. there is three places I have found to purchase one. I found these on the internet with a search engine, if anyone has info on this I would greatly appreciate any input.

Cummins 3802245 has the 0. 020" thicker head gasket (3283339), and the stuff for the upper engine. You might save money getting individual gaskets, depending on how much stuff you are replacing. I use genuine Cummins gaskets and they have been very reliable.

Sorry for your plight

I now have 30 K on my wife's truck since the rebuild. It was in 99. I went to a local diesel machine shop. They bought the bearings, pistons, gaskets ect. from Cummins. At that time there was no "kit" for the parts from Cummins, he had to piecemeal it together. He might have got a few parts from someone else, I can't remember but most came from Cummins. They got a better price from Cummins so I let him buy the parts plus he had the books with the part #s since it had to be ordered individually. It cost me about $4500. 00 for the machine work and the parts. That was better than at the time $10000. 00 from a rebuilder or cummins. I wish I could see my origonal post, it will not open. Man this is like Chris's motor, it just make me sick that you hurt it! Heck you better go ahead and put in a cam and a ported head you might have hurt them and we all want to be safe
