Just purchased a 2003 2500 5spd 4whl drive with a 250hp cummins and want to know which boost or performance module is best. (Please no wars) The truck is used for towing occasionally. I hate to modify the engine by injectors because of the good fuel mileage. But after driving a 78 crewcab with my slightly modified 97 cummins and 5spd for several years, I am a little disappointed with the performance of this truck. Don't get me wrong, but the old truck had a lot more zip out of the hole and at 50 mph in fifth. I would like to retain the mileage, reliability and add a little more power. What do you 3rd genners suggest?

78 D200 crew cab with 97 215 Hp Cummins, 5spd 2whl drive, miles-to many

2003 2500 Quad cab 250 hp, 4whl drive no mods yet. 111750 miles

Which Power upgrade

Are ya'll using a seperate filter and pusher pump when adding boxes? And why edge? I know from what each power box maker claims, edge sounds like a better choice.

Edge is very popular and great to work with. I've never had a problem that they didn't fix immediately or send me a brand new unit.

I would vote SMARTY CR!!!! I've done bully dog, I've done edge, and in the end in my opinion they did not even come close to how fun the smarty is!

I just recently got the Smarty and am very happy!!

I was one of those that were holding out for the Edge, then they kept saying one more month. After many months of that I said no I will buy something else. It may be a great product but they lost my business.

Also look at the TST product.

If I undrstand the info on this site, the Smarty reprograms the engine ECM. Can you unplug the programmer and leave the program in place? If so , I like that feature.

Both Edge and Smarty look very good. Where can I find more info on these boxes?

thanks for help.

LMcCary,

You can go to http://www.madselectronics.com. That is Marco's website. I would also sugguest you read the thread about stacking the Smarty with the TST and the Edge, "Another Smarty thread... I don't like it so far". It is located on this forum on the 2nd page at the time of this reply. I read it yesturday and it about 12 pages long. I don't know if you plan on stacking the box or not but this demonstrates Marco's customer service trying to problem solve the advance timing issue on a customer's truck with 90 hp injectors, Smarty and Smarty. Marco is located in Italy, you may also want to go to Bob Wagners website, http://www.wagnerandassociates.biz . Bob is located in the Pacific Northwest.

I have read those and do not plan stacking. From what is posted, most of the failures of injectors and pistons are from excessive use of boxes. The Smarty looks like something that would work though. I the many years of repair business, most of the engine destruction was caused by going to the extreme fooling of a component. Seems like Smarty tweaks a large group of the parameters, which should be better. All ECM have hidden or rounded off parameters that can be adjusted or fine tuned for ones application.

Of course I am not saying that boxes are the only cause of failure. Fuel contaminates, lack of fuel for cooling, lack of air filtration and faullty injectors also cause major failure.

Thanks for all of the posts

smarty on an 03 is one of the best years. Lots of guys are seeing 3+ mpg increase towing or empty and lower egt's too.

good fuel increase on 04. 5 too 2. 0 - 2. 5

Happy Juice

Friday afternoon I installed the Edge Juice with Attitude (EJD3000-WAM) on my 04 CTD and am very pleased with the added performance. Attached are several graphs showing various performance tests I did this morning. All tests were performed going the same direction on the same section of road. The air temp was 61 degrees at the start and 65 when I finished the last test. All data was generated by the Attitude display.

I hooked up the boat for the towing performance tests. The truck (with me & ½ tank of fuel) weights 7,280 and the boat/trailer weighs 6,080 for a total weight of 13,360 pounds.

The first graph shows the results of the towing tests up a 7. 3% grade. The road leading up to the bottom of the grade is level and the grade itself is a constant slope. Before starting the test I traveled along a flat section of highway and set the cruise to 55 MPH. I started each test a little over one mile from the bottom of the slope and selected resume on the cruise to ensure I was doing the same speed when I started up the slope. The transmission downshifted to 3rd and accelerated back to 55 MPH on both the first and second test. The third test was in level 3 (Tow) and was the only test where the transmission did not downshift out of overdrive and it maintained 55 MPH all the way up the hill.

The second graph is 0 to 60 times while towing.

The third graph is1/4 mile times and speed while towing.

The fourth and fifth tests were without the boat/trailer.

Anybody know where I can find an Edge Juice WITHOUT the Attitude? I have a Commander, so I don't want or need the Attitude. Everywhere I look, I see them sold together...
