TST, EZ, Blue Chip, PNP, bigger injectors, larger turbo, 4" exh. I just want more power for hauling aroung my antique tractors. Where should I start? 98. 5 Quad cab, 3500 4x4 5 sp 4. 10 bone stock for now.

Well.......

IMO the single best improvement you can make is s Power Edge EZ with the boost mod elbow for your turbo wastegate. This should get you about 60 more HP than stock. While your at it GET SOME GAUGES INSTALLED... . This will let you monitor your mods... ;)

For towing, gauges(get a baseline), EZ, injectors, 4 inch exhaust if you feel the need.

Just don't go too much if towing heavy. Plus, at some point between EZ and injectors, your clutch will be talking to you.

Thanks Rick and Fred!! I do have a EGT and Boost gauge I'm going to install soon. Maybe T-day if I can sneak away from the family.

Altough not mentioned, my vote would be for the PE COMP. Biggest bang for the buck. I saw a stock truck do 316 HP on the DYNO with only this mod:D

I kinda like the more bang for the buck idea too. Bigger is better, so too much must be just right!:D

With the manual trans get the best bang for the buck, either large injectors or a heavy fueling box. If the power is too much for your clutch towing just tell your right foot too take it easy or drive with the new found power like you would with a gasser, keep your foot off the floor. With the auto a person can not do this because for one you would tear out your transmission and two the transmission line pressure is dependant on foot throttle placement, the more throttle the more line pressure. With more power your foot does not travel on the throttle as much for the power you need hense less line pressure with more HP = a big no no.

I would get the DD ultimate power module or the EZ comp box.

Hint: -- email address removed -- has a used DD ultimate power module for sale at a bargain price. It works great and was used very little, I know, it use to be mine. Way too much power for my stock transmission with DD stage I injectors. The nice thing about the box is you can adjust the power levels 1-5 and within those levels you can adjust when the power comes on with a seperate 1-5 level.

I was going to have DTT TC and VB upgrade put in but could not find some one competent enough to do the installation so I sent the module back for a refund, thats another thing he has great customer service.

Moderator, if I have done something I should not have, sorry, and please edit my post.

I should also add I am in no way a sales person or afiliated with massdiesel in any shape or form. Just trying to give my opinion.

I second the vote for the PE Comp, unless you're really squeamish about warrantee issues. The in-cab adjustments will give you control over power, egt, smoke, towing, altitudes, etc. and will fit nicely with other mod$ you might do later. Since you have gauges, watch closely for egts.

Read other threads about the BHAF - that's a real easy way to let your truck breathe easier and the 4" exhaust wasn't to tough an install either - even for a wrench-retarded guy like me.

What kind of tractors do you have? I have a 1943 Farmall H, and a 1944 Farmall M.

Installing the EGT gauge

After eating my fill of turkey I am too nappy to drag my butt out to the shop. But tommorrow I'm going to install my gauges before I get "bombed". So my question is: to drill a hole in the exh manifold for the 1/8 in pipe tap will put shaving on the inside. right?

The instructions say to run a magnet down there to retrieve the pieces. This does not sound like it will retrieve ever last piece. Should I remove the turbo? And how tuff a job is this? Do I need new gaskets?

EGT Tap

I pulled my turbo, stuffed a clean rag up there(past drilling point), tapped it, removed filings w/ finger, and slid the rag out. Mounted an exhust brake at the same time so I had a new gasket. Works well, just take your time and don't tighten down real hard just snug it up w/ anti-seize compound on the threads.

You also should consider a fuel pressure gage. Just installed mine and then found out my lift pump was weak. A gage and a lift pump is way cheaper than an injection pump:eek: . Doug

Drilling and Taping

You don't have to remove the turbo. I used a heavy grease on both the drill and on the tap to catch the metal chips.

Just take your time, clean the drill a couple of times and re-grease each time.

Do the same with the tap, clean and re-grease a couple of times. Then use a magnet with a flexible head on it. I found very few chips in the manifold using this process.

Any chips that get past this process will be blown through the turbo and out the exhaust in the first few seconds of the engine running.

Worked for me. Greg L

When I installed my egt I used a magnet to get some of the shavings and then I used a piece of hose that I taped on to one of my shop vac attachments. You would be supprised what the shop vac could pull through the small hose. I got this idea from an earlier post and it worked great. .

I've got the PE Comp and really like it for towing. You can watch your EGT's and adjust the Comp for maximum performance. Not only that but it will put a big :D on your face! Have fun!
