Hi guys my uncles 03 Quad 2 wheel drive has 80k on it and the shocks are shot, my family wants to go in for x-mas and get him a set for all around; so my question si for those with 2 wheel drives what is the best shock you have found for best ride, he rarely tows with his truck so ride is the most important. Also where are you guys finding the best prices these days...

good question and i would like to know as well... even though i only have just over 27k miles on mine the shocks are shot from em making them fade out and over heat too many times... . wash board roads are GREAT at 70 mph... .

i was thinking about an adjustable resivior shock, but i dont see your uncle needing them like i do... .

Some posts about using Monroes and liking them. Napa stores or? I've used them on previous trucks and liked them just fine. Proberly will on my dually when its time.

I think the problem is most guys love Bilsteins, and I don't think they make them for the 3rd gen 2wd's yet.

I think the NAME Bilstens is what they love. As I stated some posts here and there about Monroes being liked just fine, lifetime warranty and available etc. Worked fine for me in the past. One post I think in the oil fields said there on everthing they drive and got good service from them.

I don't agree. I've owned a lot of shocks, and found bilstein's to be high quality, easily worth they're (what, $65) price.

I ran Bilsteins and KYB's on my Fords. I think the KYB's were comparable to the Bilsteins. Not sure if their available for Dodges.

If Bilstein would make some shocks I might buy some. Technically they have them for the 4x4's but no one seems to have them in stock. I ordered them for the first time last June. Waited until October and cancelled my order. Tried again at the end of November and was told they're backordered for three more months. I wonder if they plan on producing any more of them.

I have a 4X4 and also got tired of waiting for Bilsteins to actually be available. I went for Edelbrock's and have been generally pleased... ride quality is definitly better than stock.

Unless something has changed in the past year (hope it has) I was not able to find any aftermarket replacements (longer at least). I was wanting to replace my stockers when I install the spacers on my 04 2wd. I'm sure there are some parts warehouses that sell stock length replacements, but I found NO ONE selling longer length for the 2wd model! If someone can prove to me that they do exist (longer for the 2wd) please do so. I'm needing to get a set pretty quick.

I had a set of KYB's installed on my 2 wheel drive last week. It rides alot better than the stock shocks did & handles the Calif. freeways bouncing much better. I am very happy with the upgrade. btw: one of the front & one of the rear stock shocks were spent. My truck has 73K with probably less than 5% of those miles towing. I paid under 200. for all 4 shocks from shox.com then had them installed for 20 bucks apiece. The mechanic said only one was a "bear" to get to, the drivers side rear.

ps- I got tired of waiting for the bilsteins release.

Bilstein's are in new Genos Catalog

Bilstiens shocks with custom valving (for the Cummins Dodge) are in the new Geno's catalog that came with TDR issue 51 and found on page 16.

Kibby I just looked at your reference & they do not list any shocks for the 3rd Gen. 2 wheel drive.

So like I said earlier... I got tired of waiting for Bilsteins release.

Elite1,

You are absolutely right they don't list them for 2wd 3rd gen. Sorry, next time I'll read the post better .
