THe Ultimate Pet Peeves Thread!

ol ron, those figures sound great to me.

My assessed value is about 3 thousand more than yours but I pay more than twice that in total taxes (school + municipal) for the same service you receive (none).

Now you know why NYS is darn close to being the 4th most populated state (after CA, TX, and FL).

I'm from Oklahoma and moved to Texas. OK has a state income tax (Sucked!) plus sales & property tax. TX has no income tax, moderately high property tax, 8. 25% sales tax in the big cities and down to 6. 25% in the little towns. For income tax, Texas uses what I call a dumba-- tax, otherwise known as a State Lottery. I am one because I buy a ticket occasionaly.

The cost of living is low concerning consumer goods, but if you don't build your house with the proper ventilation through the walls and attic, the AC bills eat you alive.

Live Free Or Die

New Hampshire all the way... .

(1) No Income or Sales Tax

(2) Cheap Liquor and Cigarette prices

(3) Property tax is a little high (my town is at $31/$1000)

(4) Political: Both US Senators and Congressmen are Repubs.

Gov. , state House and Senate are Repub.

(5) Firearms: Anything you want, you can get. You only have to

register it if you have to tow it. :D

Shall-issue state for Concealed Carry - anyone can

get one.

(6) Good long hunting season (bow, blackpower, rifle/shotgun).

(7) From the Concord area, mountains are only 1 to 1 1/2 hrs

away, seacoast is 40 minutes away (best of both worlds).

(8) Good jobs for the most part, NH is always the first New

England state to come out of a recession and the last to go

into one.

Whatever you do, don't move to the great state of Wisconsin!

Property taxes suck and wages are low.

My house was just assessed at $104,000. It's a 3 BR ranch (20x50) on a 99'x300' lot with detached 2 1/2 car garage. I pay $2100 a year on that. Not to mention my income tax, sales tax (5. 5%), crazy high fuel tax, and on and on.

Don't bother talking to the politicians about fixing it. Doyle got elected because McCallum is a crook. Of course, half of the state capital is being investigated right now for election fraud. But when it came time to fix what he said he'd fix, Doyle went to the voters for ideas on solving the state's budget problems. Probably because he either doesn't have a clue how to fix it, or he never intended on fixing the budget. This does not inspire confidence in my state government.

To give you an idea on how screwed up this place is, a recent construction project was being considered for two towns near here. One town told the other, "Allow us to take this project from you or we'll turn off your water and sewer!" How's that for inter-jurisdictional cooperation?!

Oh and BTW, for some side action, the state likes to hand out traffic citations like lottery tickets. Just to make a little $$$ on the side.

The thing that perturbs me the most about this state is that there is no outrage at how we are being worked over by the state (as compared to other places we've lived). It seems as though the world could be ending (ie the apocolypse, rapture, second coming of Christ, etc. ), but as long as the Packers win, all is right with the world. Talk about priorities.

Why do I live here, you might ask yourself? Because I moved here when I was naive and stupid (although, I haven't changed much). Now I'm stuck here. Believe me, I'm gone the first chance something better comes along.

Good luck on your search for Eden. Let me know when you find it.

East TN. is the place to be...

Man, I thought MI. was bad. Some of the info you guys are putting out is a real eye opener.

My taxes (of course I live in the sticks in MI. ) are about $13/$1000. Not too bad. State income tax last year I think was 4. 2%. Not too bad.

But TN. , at least when I was living there, had no state income taxes, cost of housing was about 1/2 of what it is here in the sticks of MI. I also recomend GA, NC, and SC, but don't know the detail about those states. SC probably is the best bet, because its been getting some industry in the last 10 years or so.

New Joisey???

Shall we just say... .

NOT!!!!

I have a 1600 sq ft ranch on a 100x100 lot. This costs me about $2500. 00 tax. Some might say that ain't too bad. Well, we get nothing for that. NOTHING!!

I suppose it's worth 200K now. I bought it from a bank 10 years ago for 70K. :D

Lets see, income tax, yes!

Car insurance, Oh yea. Were about the highest in the nation for that.

There's plenty of toll roads (as if your obscene taxes ain't enough) and the traffic if free!! :D

Winos and all sorts of dregs of life are within short driving distance.

Crowding, yes we have that too. :D (much more than 10 years ago when I moved here)

Political wise, well surely you've heard of the Torricelli/Lautenburg Vs. Forrester senatorial race, didn't you?

If your candidate isn't a sell able product, change him/her. The laws don't matter, change him/her whenever you want.

Politicians can say whatever the voting populace wants to hear during a campaign, and do whatever they want after elected.

Don't matter, the idiots will vote them back in anyways. :p

There's a lot more fine points to touch on here, but I'll spare you. :D
