Which state is best?

If you are thinking about Reno visit for a few days or longer each season if you can first. It is WAY different than Seattle. There is no state income tax but other things cost more that in some ways make up for it. Houses are $150K and up for basic home, $200K+ for fairly nice middle class house and much more for nice stuff with a view. There are communities within 30-40 minutes of Reno that are more rural and slightly less expensive. One good thing about Reno is lots of outdoor opportunities for those that like being outside. There are excellent camping, bicycle riding, dirt bike motorcycle riding, jeeping, snowmobiling and skiing, etc. Nevada has more public lands than most other states. Lake Tahoe basically has no equal in the US for purity, clairity and water related activities. Mark Twain in his book 'Roughing It' referred to Lake Tahoe as the 'fairest picture the whole earth affords' and many agree. Reno can get cold and snow in the winter, hot and dry in the summer, Fall is the best season, but the wind can blow any day of the year, and mostly does.

The Granite State

I escaped from NJ long ago and found NH. Very nice.



- No Income tax

- No sales tax

- Very conservative state (if you like that)

- Go skiing in the Mountains, then go out for a seafood dinner

on the coast

- Building trade is quite hot here also

- No gun laws

- No emmisions tests



The LIVE FREE OR DIE!!!!!!!!! State (gotta love that on our licence plates).

If you like outrageous taxes and cost of living come to Douglas County Kansas!!

Colorado Springs is booming with a lot of construction, I would live there in a heartbeat if I was not so close to retiring.

Do yourself a favor and stay out of TX. It's HOT, home owner's insurance SUCKS, its DAMN HOT, people anywhere near a big city are A Holes, IT"S HOT ALL THE DAMN TIME(unless it's raining), ain't no building going on here that I can see... did I mention it's HOT!?



And before anybody goes flaming me, yes I've lived here for 36 years, it sucks unless you're out in the country, and yes, the first chance I have to get the hell out, I'm gonna take it.

No flaming intended, but that's why I live in Vermont, right on the border with NH. I do have to pay sales tax, but only on big items. Other than that, I'd have to say NH isn't so great. If you're a liberal, forget it. I'm not really pro-this or pro-that, but I know extreme liberals who are really getting tired of the pro-life BS, and the election was only last November! As for the Live Free or Die part, don't get me started, it has to do with family heritage.

Again, sorry if this offends any New Hampshire-ites.

IMHO - New England is GREAT. I'm considering coming back to live here after college. I might have to consider a state other than VT or NH, mainly because of taxes and politics. The building market is amazing, no emmissions testing is the best, and since when were there no gun laws in NH. I know VT doesn't have a concealed carry law.

Nothing compares to Texas. If you don't mind commuting 50 miles to work, you can live in the country for cheap. Property taxes are cheap in comparison to other areas.



Plenty of reasons to live here that words can't describe. No other state has the same attitude or friendly people.



It's been my experience that the most beautiful girls live in Texas. Just go to Billy Bob's on Friday nights and you'll see that I'm right. (Do a search on "Billy Bob's" if you don't know what it is)



I've traveled through 49 of the states in my life. You couldn't get me to move to anywhere else.

I bet you will have a different (outlook) attitude and you wont be one of those friendly people either and the words you will use to describe things you wont be able to use (type) here on the main form !!!!!!!!!!! Just think in the near future you will be able to welcome everyone to Texifornia . Now I know things are better in the country but like Mike Ellis said politics are changing fast and things are going to get worse ,even in the country. If you don't believe that there was a article in the paper today that said some state senators have sent a new bill to the capital to try to get it passed to raise the state fuel tax on diesel and to put smog devices on all diesel trucks and equipment and to try to make people who own diesel trucks and equipment to buy low polluting gas vehicles . Now that sounds like something that would happen in California .

I really think I'd like to move to Texas if it wasnt for the heat.

I dont like it over 70 and dry.
