Which stock turbo would be the best?

Well I've run short of money to finish my excursion swap as originally planned (thanks to sled pulling with my 01 :-laf). Anyways, I've decided to sell my SPS62 turbo and downpipe and use a stock turbo to recoup some money. For all of you 3rd gen guys, which stock turbo is the best (most airflow) and will work on my 04 cummins engine.



I seem to remember maybe the 04. 5+ turbo's were slightly bigger than the 03-04's? Were they different based upon a manual or auto trans? Are all the turbo's from 04. 5+ to 06 the same?



Either way I will be putting a boost elbow on, so the electronic wastegate will go in the trash. No problems there.

I don't know if this is accurate or not but I think that an 04 with an auto came with a HE341W. 04. 5 and 05 manual came with an HE351W, don't know about the rest?



Are all 04. 5 and newer an HE351W or did the auto's come with something smaller on the exhaust side?

04. 5 and up did have better turbo's than the 03-04's did.



03-04 would make 26-30lbs of boost



04. 5 and up will make 32-40+ of boost

I have my stock turbo that I removed from my 03 at 10K, put on a SPS62. Since then I have traded for a Silver62, wish I had a SPS62 back on my truck, better for towing.



Maybe some kind of swap in the making?

Can you expand on this a bit? I'm needing a turbo for my truck and was planning on going with the Silver 62. Why did you like your SPS62 better then the Silver62?
