Does anyone know which TDR Issue No. contains the article which has information to replace the fan clutch in a 1998. 5 24-valve 3500 5-spd? Please help!
No special info needed really. You just need a 36mm wrench and a holding wrench. It spins off in the same direction the engines turns (counterclockwise when sitting in seat). I made my own holding wrench. It spans the fan pulley bolts. If you are lucky you might get it off of there without a holding wrench by hitting the fan wrench with a big hammer. Another option if you have no tools might be to us a chisel or punch on the corners of the nut.
sorry I don't know the issue its in as I never saw it.
Thanks, This is good info. Any Brand of fan clutch to buy or stay away from? I want to go another 10 years with this truck, not looking at the cheapest way out with some China made aftermarket replacement part.
I have seen guys on here say the OE from the dealer is the best but they cost a lot more of course. I have used several aftermarket ones and not seem to be perfect. Currently I have a Napa one on there and it seems to run more than it should, which takes power and mileage. Before that I had a Napa one that didn't run enough. Before that I ran one from Carquest and I think it didn't run enough. I suppose I should probably try one from the dealer next but don't drive the truck that much so it wouldn't be worth it probably.
