A direct QUOTE from Klocklear of Diesel Dynamics, when asked about the timing of the Edge boxes in combination with DD injectors:
It is not optimum and "could" cause damage under the right circumstances according to our R&D guy. This is why we changed the parameters for our version.
Personally, I would have reservations about running the EZ with large injectors. I am taking it easy until I can upgrade my EZ to a TST PMAX Competition. Obviously "stacking" is a definite no-no, at least with the newer models that have more aggressive timing. My EZ is one of the first for an '02-- I was told the timing isn't quite as aggressive. It still feels a little over advanced.
The timing of the EZ is simply designed for use with stock injectors. With large injectors, the timing is effectively advanced beyond optimum. The larger the injector, the more the over-advance. I don't think that you would have problems with a dd1 or the 275s, but the larger the injector, the more likely that you can hurt something.
That said, there are a LOT of guys here using the EZ with larger injectors, some of whom tow VERY heavy. I have yet to hear of a failure due to overadvanced timing in these cases. Maybe some headgaskets are stronger than others?
Anyway, I would think that the VA or PUCK would be a more suitable box for use with large injectors (stage 3 or over)
I like my EZ, it's just not "optimum" for my needs.
