Thanks LSMITH. I was leaning toward the Makita's, but now... ... maybe not. The black battery drills have more torque than they can handle?? Would you recommend the orange battery 14v or just get a DeWalt?

By the way, what's your line of work to be going drills the way you do?

tuffram, no problem. I have never had trouble with the orange battery 14V Makita. The only one of them (orange battery) I ever broke got dropped and..... long story. The black battery has amazing power and runtime, probably 25-30% more of both. If you do not abuse your tools I think you will be just fine with it. The last one I had was upgraded at the Makita service center (they know me:eek: ) and they said that it was in all the new ones as well. It got stolen before I was able to "test" it thoroughly so I do not know if it is the solution.

I worked for a machinery dealer and could do things with a drill that would blow your mind. I used them as impact drivers even. Like I said earlier I abuse the ____ out of them and know it, but the time saved was well worth the cost if you keep several on hand. I used them constantly, and my use cannot really be used to judge them other than there are several out there that were nearly indestructible.

BTW, the Makita 14V is the only 14V I would own besides the Porter Cable. I kept with the Makita because it is the toughest 14V period, and the power and weight/size combination made it the best possible for what I was doing.

Between me and Dad we have had PC, dewalt, makita, B&d, Snap-on, Ryobi etc...

I have a 14. 4 dewalt and a 12v dewalt. . both are great. . neither are hammer drills though. I always get the HD version, it usually has the black rubber on the grip. I can't seen to tear them up. I have a 12v dewalt trim saw too. . eats batteries but is handy for small stuff.

Dad has PC, Ryobi and Dewalt. . prefers the PC and likes Dewalt.

To each his own.
