I need an under-the rail tool chest for my 2004 short bed. It looks like most of the tool chests are too wide to fit between the front wall of the bed and the wheel wells. Does anyone know of a 60" tool chest that fits? Thanks for your help.

Becarefull if you buy a weathergaurd, i have a 665 (I think). It would not fit down inside of my short bed box. It would hit the wheelwell when it sat all the way down. So I found someone that had a old body-lift and used 4 of the 3" blocks. It worked pretty good, now I can lay sheets of plywood down uner the box. And keep it clean out better. The box only sticks up a 1" or so, and I pull a 5er with it and I have no problems, except for seeing the hitch when hookin up.

That's what I'm concerned about: finding a box to fit the short bed. I've heard that the long beds are not a problem, but there are few boxes, if any, to fit the short bed, due to the short dimension between the front wall of the pickup bed and the wheel wells. One other consideration: the box needs to fit under a tonneau cover. Thanks again for your input.

I'll third or is it fourth the Pro-Tech boxes, absolute quality. If they don't have what you want call them and they will build it for you.

Have you tried Delta? I have never had one that sits inside the box, but have had a Delta Easy-loader(?) and currently have an aluminum Delta cross-over (both have a single lid) toolbox. Definitely worth the extra money for the aluminum.

I've been very happy with the quality of my WeatherGuard Box. I have the Model 127 cross box that sits on the bed rails. I know that they make various sizes of chests that would sit on the floor of the bed.

Mopar

Don't forget about the Mopar tool box - diamond plated - made to fit a SWB too. I was eyeballing one installed on a 2003 just yesterday and the fit was perfect. There was also enough room beneath the tool box to fit a ladder. I checked on the cost at the dealership and they told me $485. I'm either getting one of these or possibly that fold up bed cover -- just can't make up my mind.
