I would like to order a Ram 3500 6. 7L DRW Big Horn Crew Cab 4X4 with a 3. 73 Axle

for pulling a 12,000# to 15,000# Fifth Wheel full time. Two Transmissions are available:

68RFE 6 SP Auto or Aisin HD 6 SP Auto. Which would be the best choice.

I will be traveling most from South Dakota to the western mountain states.

Your repsonse will be Appreciated. Thank you,

Scott

I looked at a 3500 Mega Cab with the Aisin and 4:10's this weekend. I was very impressed with how well it shifted. Firm, but not harsh. Since it is available now, I believe that is the trans I would go with for heavy pulling on a regular basis.

Thank you for the input. I have looked on the 3500 Mega Cab on line. I do like the bigger cab. Will have a short bed. So will have to go with slider hitch, which is fine. I will consider it when i decide to buy.
I am glad you were able to drive the Mega Cab with the Aisin Transmission, that's good information thanks. They don't have many 3500 4x4 DRW Mega Cabs in Hawaii.
Thank you for the information,
Scott

In the weight you will be pulling, the 68RFE will be more than adequate. Consider a 4. 10 rear end since you are full timing it. It will pull better and make either transmission happier longer. The Aisin is nice. I will be getting one on Monday with 4:10's but my trailer is 18,000. The standard 68RFE with 4. 10's is rated to pull 21,000 and the Aisin 29,000. This is on a crew cab dually. I have a mega cab now and the back seat room is amazing but the new crew cab is nothing to sneeze at either. I will gladly take the 8 foot box over the extra back seat room (and I have 3 kids traveling still) and not have to worry about my back window and sheet metal.

oh, did I mention that the Aisin is a far superior transmission?

You spent $7795 (list) to get the Cummins, which is too good for a mere pickup.

Now spend $2650 to get the Aisin, which is too good for a mere pickup.

My friend on the Big island ordered his through Dave Smith Motors. Even having to pay higher for the wider dually shipping he saved heaps over the local dealerships.

I would go Crewcab longbed with the Aisin trans no need to get a Mega the space you get with the mega is the same in a crew except the seat lean's back in the mega but then your Stuck with a shortbed . IMO Longbed is the only way to go less hassles with hitch and everything . I would also try n get 410's if your going to be pulling big weight but that's Just me Every truck I have owned has had 410's there pull great.

Thank all for your replies.

I will be getting the Aisian transmission with 410 axel in a Crew Cab 3500 DRW. I do want to add a even rail tool box

i can't do that with a short box. Can't wait to get started.

Good Choice Scott Enjoy the New Truck when you get it they sure are Nice my view is if you can put lumber of 8 ft into the bed and close the gate it's not a Real truck . :)
