Which Truck Cap?

What brand/model of truck cap have you had success with? I am looking for a cab high model for a 2006 long bed.

A. R. E. Z-Series. I looked at the Leer caps and wasn't impressed. I'm very happy with the quality, but the price was more than I wanted to pay. I got the optional Yakima roof rack system, roof mounted clothes hangers and fold down sliding front window.

Anyhow, I have a SnugTop Super Sport shell.

Yeah, I'm putting larger tires on it. I have the ProComp 305/65-17, but I just haven't put them on yet.

Here's a link to member abdivers 3rd gen with a Caravan. I have one on my 2nd gen and am looking forward to one for my Megacab. Yes, they are spendy, but IMO worth it for what I do. I carry lumber, a 12' boat, pipe, etc. on it and sleep in it on occasion. It is very durable. The one on my 97 was originally on a 94 gasser and it still looks good, except the clear coating on the top is starting to peel. It has about 200,000 mile under it's belt and sits outside in the Nevada sun. Definately worth a look.

My 06 with Leer truck top?

It ok but a little over price as others have said. I got to get or make brackets to lift cap off when I need it off. It got to be a one man job.

I've got a century cap. Looks just like the Z-series only cheaper and it fits well.

I have an ARE that I have had on two different 2500 trucks and love it. No paint fading at all the the fit and finish is great too. They even replaced my rear LED brake light under warranty after it was almost 3 years old !!



I highly suggest the ARE product and I have had Century and Leer in the past and always had problems with them.

I am looking at the A. R. E Z series or Leer 100XQ for my 05 short-bed. I'd like some feedback on what these two are going for. I have a sneaky suspicion that my local dealers (especially the A. R. E. guy) are trying to go on a Caribbean vacation on my purchase... ...

I just bought a ARE Z Series and love it. I got the E Lock which ties the lift gate lock into the truck door locks. The lock switch on the arm rest, as well as the key fob both lock/unlock the rear gate! It was always a hassle to lock two locks on lift gate I had on my old truck and sometimes I neglected to do it, which resulted in having my tools stolen once. The E Lock is worth a lot of money to me!

Thanks. How much were your caps at your local dealers?

I bought the Leer 100XQ and am very happy with it. It fits well and the door works at -50. I personally like the way it makes the truck look more like a giant burb. The installed price from the Leer dealer was 2175. 00. The snug top was 300 more and was an 8 hour drive away so I went with the Leer for obvious reasons.
