which turbo would be best for 450 horses. im leaning phatshaft 62/12 now, but the HP range advertised is 350-550. would the turbo be able to spool quickly with 90HP SDX injectors and a #6 plate or is there a much better option out there.

feel free to recomend whatever combo worked well for you.

i would love to have a ball bearing turbo, but have no intension of dropping 3k for a turbonetics and i cant find a garret built for the 12v.

this would be mainly for daily driving so im much more interested in low end giddy-up rather than top end power.

any help is greatly appreciated. i cant make up my friggin mind:confused:

is that the full kit or just the turbo. i need the kit. i dont currently have the 4in down pipe. if that is the full kit then thank you very much sir.

if not im still open to suggestions

how about an HE351ve ??

Well now, I actually have NO idea how to specifically answer your question, as I am NOT a turbo guru, and have not even yet completed the HE351cw to HE351VE (ie VGT from a 6. 7L CTD) that I am gathering parts for on my truck,

HOWEVER, all that being said, I DO know that the HE351VE VGT (variable geometry turbo) from the 6. 7L trucks, offers MUCH faster spool-up then the stock turbo on a 3rd gen truck simply beciuase of the variable nozzle technology they incorporate but they ALSO provide an exhaust brake function, based on the same tech.

AND NOW, Fleece performance has just announced that they will soon release one of their standalone VGT controllers that will seamlessly integrate with the 12 valve CTD, using MAP and boost readings to control spool-up. These units will ALSO be customizable with USB upgradeable, realtime software that will run on a windows based laptop which, from my understanding, will also allow the user to custom tune the software for their specific truck AND fueling mods.

While certainly others have modified and installed the HE251VE turbo on both 2nd and 3rd gen trucks, Fleece has very much pioneered the field in standalone electroinic control of the HE351VE turbo. They have had their products available for a couple years now and most everyone who uses one (both on 2nd and 3rd gen trucks) praises the set-up for its ease of install and functionality.

MORE INFO... you can buy an HE351ve VGT takeoff from ebay or other forum classifieds for approximately $200 TO $400 depending on coinditon and mileage and parts included, and then add the cost of the $650 Fleece controller, and perhaps some other costs with other needed install parts (ie exhaust manifold, flange adapter, or IC tubes or gaskets or whatever), but pretty much for around $1200 max, you can have a faster spooling, better flowing, Cummins designed, Holeset built VGT turbo that comes off the newer Ram trucks on your older Ram truck... AND YOU GET AN EXHAUST BRAKE to boot... ( sorry... I get VERY excited about this subject, and can't wait to get it done on my truck. . I already have the turbo andmanifold, but still need to buy the controller sometime this winter when I have time and hopefully money) to insatll everything.

OK here is the link to the video showing the Fleece prototype 12v controller--

Fleece HE351VE Standalone Turbo Controller - YouTube

You'll have to contact Fleece themselves for more info

Like i said earlier, I am not at all sure if this is the right tubo for your truck and mods, but I owuld guess at the very least it would be worth looking into, particularly if you have any need or use for an exhaust brake. OF course, I also need to point out that if you have an AT instead of manual in your truck , you would also need some sort of standalone TC controller to make full use of the EB function of the HE351ve turbo.

OK. . help that helps a little. :-laf

full kit  i think jegs will price match if you want to play with them instead

i scored a he351vgt for around $150 a while back to play with and the flange is a problem, i already have a ats 3 piece and it wouldn't play well with the flange on the turbo, kinda like female to female fit and would need a coupler that could bolt to the manifold and then bolt the turbo to it, or maybe a tubular header with a plate flange that you could bolt through. at the time no one had cracked the proprietary controller signal yet and i was going to run the vg rack off a linear actuator and a couple pressure switches with a switch on the shifter for the brake position

PS-- I am pretty sure that the HE351VE supports just around 450hp

My recomendation: I. I Silver 62/14. It spools quick. Best Turbo I have ever had. Will need an HX-40 down pipe.

why does the silver bullet have such a big effective range?

bout how many horses were you pushin when you used that turbo.

im only lookin for 450. 650 can wait till a later date:-laf

sounds like the turbonetics is just what im lookin for. now if i could only get my hands on a supercharger:D

KBurgoyne,

I can't answer the wide window of supported HP on the Silver 62/14. Perhaps a call to Industrial Injection could answer it.

I ran a Phat Shaft 62/12 for a couple of years. If I remember correctly the turbo seemed like it was "Choking" the exhaust end.

When I went w/ the Silver 62/14, it was like a night & day difference. Quick spool-up. lower EGT. Perhaps it has something to do with 74mm turbine wheel offered only the Silver Series line.

I dyno'd 446 HP/950 Ft lbs on 1-9-'09 w/ a 175 HP p7100.

PS Signature is way out of date.

what rpm does the silver 62 light in day to day driving

the stock one kicks in at just over 1000 and i'd like to keep it at or near that number

quick spool-up equal high torque since it hits at 1500 while top end boost gets you more horses.

me likey torque. me gonna buy turbo that make truck torqueyOo.

I can't answer that question. I have my AFC back ¼" for emmisions purposes.

Open a new thead in 12V engine

Let me do it :)

forget everything else, ive decided on a turbonetics stage 1 or 2. or garrett stage 3 anybody know what the dimensions are on the stage 2. i saw a video of the stage one spinning at idle so im wondering if can spool the bigger one with the same injectors or maybe the next size up.

then get some DV's, head proting, exhaust manifold, cam, studs so on and so forth until spiders inhabit my wallet:D

I'm sorry I couldn't answer your question right away.

Spool-up on a Silver 62/14 should start at 1500 RPM or a little less.

i was looking at a stage 2 garrett besides the turbonetics i ended up with and these guys were the cheapest Garrett PowerMax GT37R Dual Ball-Bearing Turbo (STAGE 3) the turbonetics has a bomb proof warranty and one other thing that convinced me to get that one, here months later i can't remember what it was, may of been the gap between stage I and II, I is too small and wasn't sure if II was bigger then what i wanted, i think the bearing is supposed to be stronger on the turbonetics and rated for a much higher side loading if i remember correctly, they are rated on 24v's so its not apples to apples on paper in how much power they are good for
