Trying to figuire which turbo to get for my truck after I do the transmission. My horsepower plans after the transmission include stage 3 maybe stage 4 injectors and a timing box alongside my FMS Premium. Problem I am already running into is I cant get the EGTS under control under even low juice settings with the FMS. ANything over 20% empty I am over 1200 degrees. I am at mile high altitude and trying to decide what turbo to get. I want to go at least 4" exhaust, maybe 5" just cuz it looks real cool.



How is the HX-55 working out? Any info on the B-1 Turbo? Who makes the B-1 and do they have a website? I have heard mixed emotions about the reliability of the HX-40. Which turbo do you recommend considering the power mods I know I am going to add? I really want to be able to keep the EGTs in check and still enjoy some serious power.
 
With your mods you are already too much for the 40. I among others are very happy with the HX-50 hybrid. I have over 5000 very happy miles on mine.



Kurt yardley is the maker of the B-1 turbos. He also is coming out with a new turbo if it isn't already out. Somebody else will post his contact info. :)

Kurt Yardley builds the B1 turbos, and unfortunately he doesn't have a website with any info ready to roll yet. I've been horribly lax at getting the info up on my own site, so I'll crank some info off to you here:



The B1 series is simply an excellent charger for use in a single charger system and have some available options that make them sweet for twins as well. Typically, a B1 will spool a little slower than a Piers 40 (but faster than a stock 40. Some new options will bring spool-up into the 40 class range), but have a much meatier mid-range and top-end kick. The B1 compressor is capable moving over 900 cfm of air efficiently, and is simply the toughest charger on the market for the 5. 9 Cummins.



They are currently available in several breeds:



B1 Big Brother - Much to big for a single charger system. They'd work well as a primary in a Twin setup



B1 Bomber - About as big as you'd want in a single charger system. Spool-up isn't wonderful on a 24 valve, but with a 5/6 speed, you can drive around it.



B1 KwikSpool - Excellent charger. In my opinion, the KwikSpools are a great balance between spool-up and top-end kick. EGTs will typically be 150F cooler than any 40 on the market, while spoolup isn't much, if at all, behind (depends on the 40 you compare to).



B1B SuperKwikSpool - Fairly new charger, and I don't have much data on it. This is probably a good charger for your higher elevation. Still the same compressor side, but it utilizes a different exhaust housing side that will help spool-up even more than a B1, without causing too much restriction on the exhaust side.



Kurt has recently developed an external wastegate that can be used on any of the B1 series. Early tests are very promising. Kurts also managed to get a wastegate functioning on the dual wastegated turbines. This will be a slightly less expensive option, although not as desirable as the external wastegate.
 
I may seem nuts but I have an HX-50 from Haisley Machine and an HX-40 from Piers. I like the 50 but it smokes way to much in traffic jams. I have a travel trailer that the HX-40 and my set-up works well with. I do see twins in my future though. I will put the HX- 50 back on at the race track then back to the HX-40 for bringing home the trailer. :D
