Hi, Which way do I rotate the pump to advance timing? I don't think it has ever been moved, There are marks that line up. How far should I advance it? This is a 1993. Thanks, Joel

Hi Joel,

If you want to advance the pump timing you loosen the 3 - 15mm nuts and, one 10mm bolt on the bottom rear of the pump.

From there, you'll need a good rubber mallet and/or a buddy.

I usually just "snug" the middle 15mm nut (it's easy to reach) and then use BFT (blunt force tuning) to convince the pump to rotate upward toward the valve covers.

It can be a "tough sell" cause the pump wants to spring right back on ya...

You can also use a cheater bar and pry the pump upward while using the mallet to get it to move. Then once you've got roughly 1/8" between the index marks, tighten the nuts/bolt down and drive it.

There is some variation in terms of how much advance this 1/8" method produces but generally you should be fine, and end up with roughly 16 - 17* advance.

Hope that helps... . if you need more info just ask... in the mean time you can take a look around in my "readers rigs" gallery for pump pictures and so forth, just for referrence.

pastor bob... .

Thanks Pastor Bob,

I finally found to time to fix the leaky o-ring on the solenoid on the side of the injector pump, I'm doing that today. So I figure I'll bump the timing while I'm at it. Heading out to the garage now.

Joel,

Me thinks the good pastor has been into the sacred wine again.

The mounting nuts are 13 mm, not 15mm.

Please don't use a hammer on your $1500 dollar injector pump. I've found useing a LARGE set of channel locks from the top of the pump to a manifold bolt works well for moving the pump. Just move it where you want and snug up the outside nut to hold it still. If it won't move, recheck to see that you have all the nuts AND the 10mm bolt loose.

Now put the hammer away and gently move the pump. And remember, you are bending the injector lines at the same time, so don't get carried away.

Awwww.. . take a pill Dave... ;););) :D

I use a rubber mallet, not your mega-hemo-humongous ballpeen... . geeezzz... ... . :D

Ok, I admit I got the nut size wrong ..... but hey... I'm getting old so sue me... . ;):D

OH... btw guys, do NOT use a dremel tool on your injectors like Dave does... they always run too rich afterwards... .

pb.

I ended up putting a porta power between the battery tray and the tps braket on top of the pump. A couple pumps scooted it over and held it while I tightened up the nut. Worked pretty slick!

OK, Bob, just for your information, I don't even own a dremel tool. SO THERE!!

Now I'm a thinkin, for giving out false and /or misleading info, shouldn't even the Pastor be smittin with at least a 3 rwhp penalty?

But then, with ONE WHEEL DRIVE, who'd notice,,,,EH?
