Fords plumbing under the hood just plain $ucks. The new Ford is way noisier than the Dodge at idle and the turbo whine would drive me nuts after towing more than 50 miles.

And if you think the 6L problems are behind it better log onto the dieselstop and see for yourself. The number 3 seems to like to score and the injectors still have a failure rate of about 1 in a 100.

I do like the trailer brake controller but after checking out the truck for myself thats all I like. I think the 48RE is a stronger tranni flame me all you want thats my opinion over drive is over drive all 5 speeds do is give you more in between gears but if you got the torque you don't need them.

What it basically comes down to is what you want to drive. ALL 3 of the big three's diesel trucks are well designed and VERY powerful trucks and do what they're supposed to... which is haul and tow what we need them for. I'm sure the new ford is nice... but to me it;s an unproven rig. Sure... I'll agree it looks nice... nicer than the dodge... no. Maybe the powerstroke 6. 0L is faster from a start etc... what difference does it make? These trucks weren;t built to drag race they were built to work and dollar for dollar I;d wager a cummins equipped truck will work better for a longer period of time than a powerstorke or duramax... period.

People say how awesome the allison in the chebbie is... but how much trouble has really been had with the newest 48re? I know a few folks here gripe about it and sure some have had actual trouble... but I'm sure the allison and ford;s auto trannies have had some failures also.

I drive the dodge because I like dodge... and for me the cummins is icing on the cake. (or really the dodge would be icing because the cummins is like having the cake and eating it too).

The cummins dodge is still in a basic sense the same as it;s been for almost 20 years. YES I realize the truck itself has been redesigned 2 or 3 times now... and the cummins has had some fairly major changes... BUT the overall BASIC truck is the same.

I say let;s give the ford boys a chance to rack up 50 or even 100 thousand miles on the newest trucks with the 'new' 6. 0L and see where it stands. I don;t see how other than for LOOKS that anyone can really say how good the new ford truly is.

light years ahead ,I don"t thinks so We have been pulling that kind of Weight since 1997 with our Rams with the V-10, In DEC of 02 purchased our 03"s Cummins. Let"s compare dollar for dollar. When We purchased the first 03 it $5000 LESS than the ford new 6. 0. My 03 with $5000 in Mods will easliy out pull any 05 ford,The ford is a factory Max truck any Mods will weaken the longveity and durability. The dodge has all kinds of room for added HP & TQ for alot less cost.

I don't care how they twist the numbers, it they certify that the truck can in fact tow 19,200lbs then great I am legally allowed to tow that weight.

I'm not aware of any manufacturer who certifies a tow rating. Tow ratings are advertising numbers and nothing more. The GCWR less the vehicle curb weight is the only correct way to determine legal tow capacity. Unless they offer significantly higher GVWR's, then it doesn't matter anyway. Remember, you're not allowed to exceed GVWR, GCWR or GAWR. I'll be impressed if they've offered up 14,000 GVWR, but I doubt they will as that number is getting too close to thier F-450's.

Ford vs. Dodge

When my 03 2500 was totalled on April 1, 04, I drove an 04 Ford psd and loved it. My friend owns the dealership and I assure you The price I was quoted was pretty good. I use my truck as adaily driver and the only thing I tow is 1400 lb boat. A few factors came into play as I made my decision.

1) The dodge dealership I use has an oustanding service department.

2) Other than routine maintenance,I put 32000 trouble free miles on my 03.

3) When Talked to few guys that owned their own 18 wheelers, they didn't have anything bad to say about Cummins. All agreed it is better than International.

4) In 83 I bought an F-150 that had rust problems develop right after warrenty expired. The straight six, which I thought to bullet proof, ran like##@$###, and Ford was never able to get it to run right. The list goes on.

5) I was looking for longevity. And with the prices of these trucks I couldn't aford to get burned by Ford again.

Even with all this, I was still on the fence between the new Ford and Dodge.

There are problems with both trucks, but Dodges seemed to be fixable. So I went with looks. Driving them both one right after the other, I did find things I thought one truck did better than the other. my 2 cents.
