Not a Whiplash failure
Thanks, Bob Wagner. You identified the problem and I didn't catch it. The problem was not the Whiplash stick; instead, it WAS the BD short shifter. But before I give the wrong impression, BD is making the part good.
The threaded male part that sticks up out of the transmission broke, which caused the shaft to fall off in my hand. Maybe the metal was too soft, maybe it was fatigue. Dunno, not my problem. BD is sending out a replacement today by overnight air. Hopefully, it will arrive tomorrow and I will have my truck back.
I bought the BD shifter from Geno's (where I buy everything, naturally) on 5/1/03. Robin furnished me the part and order numbers, along with the invoice date. BD is doing their part, so all is right with the world.
No pun intended, but let's hope the threaded male part will be harder this time around. Robin says as far as she knows this is the first one that has failed.
So, to reiterate and set the record straight, it was NOT the Whiplash shifter that broke as I indicated in my initial post.
Thanks, Robin, for your help; and thanks, BD, for sending out a replacement on short notice.
