Anybody remember the guy who sells Whiplash shifters? Mine broke and fell off in my hand. I won't go into detail how much trouble it caused me but I want to find this feller real bad. :-{}

whiplash

are you sure it was a whiplash or was it a short shifter? 2 different products for sure

No, it's the whiplash. I have the BD short shifter too. The whiplash is an aluminum shifter that is "bent" to the left and back toward the seat. It's a neat idea so I bought it. However, the feller selling them does a swap for whatever reason, so I don't have the original to put back in. I need to locate him real bad so he can overnight another one (or preferably send me a factory shifter). This sucker snapped right where it goes into the short shifter.

Not a Whiplash failure

Thanks, Bob Wagner. You identified the problem and I didn't catch it. The problem was not the Whiplash stick; instead, it WAS the BD short shifter. But before I give the wrong impression, BD is making the part good.

The threaded male part that sticks up out of the transmission broke, which caused the shaft to fall off in my hand. Maybe the metal was too soft, maybe it was fatigue. Dunno, not my problem. BD is sending out a replacement today by overnight air. Hopefully, it will arrive tomorrow and I will have my truck back.

I bought the BD shifter from Geno's (where I buy everything, naturally) on 5/1/03. Robin furnished me the part and order numbers, along with the invoice date. BD is doing their part, so all is right with the world.

No pun intended, but let's hope the threaded male part will be harder this time around. Robin says as far as she knows this is the first one that has failed.

So, to reiterate and set the record straight, it was NOT the Whiplash shifter that broke as I indicated in my initial post.

Thanks, Robin, for your help; and thanks, BD, for sending out a replacement on short notice.

BD fix

Thank you Jeremiah for posting the follow up :)

You're welcome. I posted a follow-up from BD too. They said the first few models had this problem but they have since fixed it with harder material. :) That may be why Geno's hasn't had any complaints. I'm glad they fixed it because the short shifter is a great idea.

Is that why they were backordered after the first batch when they first came out?
