I finally towed my Fifth Wheel the other day after installing my 51" Donaldson Muffler. I noticed a very pronounced whistle at the higher RPM's. Is this the turbo I'm hearing or is it muffler related. I wonder if the 51" Nelson does the same thing. Just curious. Even empty I can hear the whistle at higher RPM's, just not a pronounced. Also I have a BHAF.

Thanks

John

I think I'll leave the ring for now. Between the Donaldson and BHAF, I have more than enough whistle. Anything more would become annoying on long cross country drives. Actually, I hear the Turbo whistle from the intake all the time, and from the exhaust with the windows down. Sounds great.

Yep, I replace my stock exhaust with a DPPI and changed out the intake to a scotty ramair 3. And boy does that turbo scream, makes it sound like the big rigs. Oo. Oo.

Intake Baffle

take out the silencer ring and intake baffle and you'll make people wonder if you have a turbine engine under the hood :D

Where exactly is this "intake baffle"? What does it look like? Will removing this make the whistle louder than it is now without the silencer ring? Hope so!

I admit, when I first got my truck. First damn thing I did was remove the “Silencer-Ring” Then my girlfriend at the time got me a K&N FIPK system to replace the oem air-box. I will say, I thought it was cool for about 2 months. I also had a muffler-rectomy done (Straight-pipe) My truck sounded horrible. The turbo sounded scattered and corse. Imagine the way one of those industrial commodes sound when you flush it, my truck made the same noise. I eventually went back to my stock muffler and put the silencer ring back in place, and now I love the sound. The whistle is more precise and a higher pitch but not as loud as without and doesn’t sound like a toilet flushing anymore when I back off the throttle or slow down.

LOL... The noise hasn't gotten to me yet and I'm still gathering the opinions on the sound produced. Positive comments thus far from my diesel buds. I know what you're saying about the sucking/whooshing sound when you slowly let off the throttle - but I like it. Just gets them to reck-o-nize the Cummins is comin'. Gotta get some sound or video clips on here eventually.
