Hey guys,

I changed out the fuel filter last night and had a "duhhh" Homer Simpson look on my face. The filter had white spots on it, when I rubbed them they smeared. What the heck is it?

This is the second filter (taken out), it had about 6000 miles on it.

I've changed many a filter since my first in 91 and have never had any with white spots on them. Are you using any additives, buying the fuel at the same place, maybe somebody put something in your tank? Thats a new one on me. Why are you changing them at 6000 miles? I think they call for fuel filter change at 15000 but I have always changed mine every 10000.

White Crap

I just changed the oil and did some other work, so i figured I would do the filter again. Figured it doesn't hurt to do it ad 6000. Now I am glad I did.

The specs were about 1/4" in diameter and there were 10-15 of them around the filter. When I rubbed my finger on them, they smeared like mayo.

I always get fuel at the same place and i have been using Stanadyne (sp?) on a regular basis.

Guess I will run a few miles and check it again.

Your using a great additive so thats not the problem. I know its colder up your way than down here so maybe its something to do with the weather changing. Could be the station you buy fuel at there tanks are sweating or there not venting good. You might try fuel at a different station.

Spots

Bertram65 ,

Thanks for the link. The white crap smears. If you run your finger across it, it smears across the filter and your finger.

Thought about the taste test, but it just didn't sound appealing. :D

i just changed mine and didnt notice anything like this... i did notice alot of scratches on my body from offorading though :(...
