1999+--->up 3500 White owners out there have you noticed any of your trux fenders (Those ever so special) bolt up dually fenders turn a unpleasing "Yellowish" color that doesn't even come close to matching the color of the fuel door (or the rest of the truck for that matter) I am really getting kind of upset on how my "Essence~of~niccotene" color problem is getting worse. Any help or ideas? Hey lets face it D/C might come back with blaming engine mods producing high amounts of Ch2x04 <----Ummm ... . yeah sure sounds good lets deny this claim.

TMTT, mine are still as white and pure as wind driven snow, just washed the truck today. I sent a reply as you didn't include this option in your poll. FYI... . Ihave a mini-me2 waiting for paint and other goodies sitting on my bench.

My 00 dually fenders stained from fuel on left side and exhaust on right side, real bad. Dealer repainted them under warranty about 9 mo. ago, and 80K miles, and they are fine today. Body man said the fenders were painted with a diff. paint. They repainted with same paint as the rest of body was.

Scott ... . Mini~Me's Fenders match and yours..... Wind Driven Snow  Yogi ... . My Entire fenders ... (Let alone Fuel Stainage that ... Well makes me ill) are the prob... . Go figure The soot from the exhaust ... Washes right off no problems.

LOL@ the mini me fenders. I do have diesel stains near the fuel flap and alot of black soot on my p. side rear quarter panel, if that helps. Soot comes right off, diesel stains... .

Ok so a question considering I am thinking of making my 2500 a 3500 when you are repainting the fenders are they coming out ok as far as the paint finish?

Paint

Perfect. Ask Brandon, he noticed they had been painted, I believe because of some over spray in the fuel filler cap. They were painted last July or Aug.

The fender wells on my '96 never did quite match, but I think it was as much because they'd been repainted (and badly at that) as from discoloration.

It was one of those things that I didn't notice before I bought the truck, because if I had, I would have (a) negotiated a lower price, or (b) not bought that particular truck.

So far, I haven't noticed it happening on my '01, but we'll see.

There was a topic about this awhile back. I seem to recall that the polyurathane fenders use a special paint that will permanently stain if diesel is spilled on them. Since then, I have been extemely careful when filling the tank and I squeeze out every drop before I remove the fuel nozzle. So far, so good. My color is driftwood which may help.

White dually Onwers Q&A

Tool Man,

Mine is a 99 and the fenders are not turning a nicotine color yet!

Aside from normal diesel stains and rock dings they look to be the same color white as the rest of the truck.

DOH!!!

This isn't good from what I hear! O. k from a frien who Paints some pretty slick Race cars Poly is tough to paint but can be done correctly with proper prep. First off a "white sealing primer with an elasticimer should have been applied by D/C from the start". The yellow I see (which are both of the fenders in their ENTIRE surface areas ) is from D/C treating theese as normal pices of sheet metal... . The oils naturally found in a manmade poly~Product have stained the "Basecoat" for life. GRRRRRR.   ! To make matters worse yet to repaint them it'l happen all over again because the fenders (Guaranteed) wont be stripped and sealed.

paint discoloration

gentlemen, i observed this the very first day that i brought my two twin 3500's home from the dealer. the fuel door looked like an eye staring out at you because it was so much lighter than the fender well. this was before the common practice of fuel staining and exhaust discoloration. when i posted this, i got no replys at all and figured that it was unique to my trucks. now i see that someone else is seeing the same thing that i saw right off the bat. before my trucks are out of the 3/36 they will be repainted or the side wells replaced to my satisfaction. to those of you that think that this is due to normal spillage or heat reaction, think again. our other 3500's that range from 92 to 98 never had this problem. a little comet and light scrubbing would always bring them to original shine. $45000 [with accesories and mods] is alot to spend on a truck that has paint that doesnt match. the answer is very simple, unless done properly, a composite will never match metal coloration unless done professionally, maybe the robots at dc should take another class in color matching. the people at quality control at the dc plants should be the next to be relieved of their duties and maybe bring in some toyota people that really care about their finished product.

Go figure,

The very first day I brought the truck home the first thing out of the neighbor's mouth was the Fuel door stood out like a sore thumb! That killed me... . Months down the road the problem has only gotten worse. Dare I bring it in? They matched the paint perfectly when I converted over to the Sport front end... But Another member's truck bed was ... . Well if he reads this thread He will chime in ;)

Picked up my truck the end of March. Just noticed the last week or so that my fenders are two turning yellow. Tim, please let me know your plans on getting yours painted. Let me know if I can help in any way.

Toolman,,Have you tried wheeling them with Meguiars Power Cleaner or Dual Action at all??,,Both are quality cleaners and could help your dilemma,,Just make sure you apply a quality polish then a wax to preserve the finished product,,Hope you get the paint on the right track,,If you need some help let me know... ... .

Yeah I know I should .... But

Hammer, After being associated with an automotive paint restorer/detailer that has done some fantastic paintwork (mainly Vintage E~Body jags/Ferrari/Lambo alpa's) explained about how ... yeah we can make that paintjob look a million Gigabucks with no effort ... But anytime ya wheel her out you remove a little more clearcoat (not rocketscience) and sure it'l gleem~N~twinkle but the problem will ... . Shall we say Re~Surface. Now to the point ... WE JUST SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DO SO TO A NEW $35,000+ VEHICLE ESPECIALLY WITH TODAY'S ROBOTIC SPRAYING TECHNIQUE That monitor every aspect and ratio of paintwork. Iv'e Wheeled it out and it looked O. K BUT not for a '01 truck! I am a Midway man for ZYMOL and use their stuff constantly and their HD Cleanse pulled out the diesel staining no problem. I am leaning twards a Repaint but not from D/C.

Toolman,,I feel your pain on the DC fools and their, quanity and not quality, work ethic,,I'm not sure I'd let them redo it either if you have no confidence in their work,,Its absoulutely a travesty that we,as consumers, have to put up with some second rate work and paint to own the best truck and engine combo going,,Let me know what you do... ...
