Ok.

First things first, when I start the truck in the morning when cold (35ish or under) I have to give it a little push of the throttle to keep it running for the first 3-5 seconds, then it runs fine and I press the go pedal down with a stick to idle it up to about 900-1000 rpm's to let it warm up. What's the issue there, or is that normal?

Next issue: While driving at night, I can see a white haze if I am on the throttle harder than steady cruise (meaning accelerating). . the more go pedal- the more haze

Truck's relatively stock,AFC slide, plate slide (Small amounts on each), 4" and a drop in K&N. It's right around 175K miles and I have no clue as to its service history.

It used about 1/4 of a quart in 4000 miles i've driven it. . so, its not oil. . coolant level isn't down...

From what I've been reading. . I'm guessing my timing has slipped or the injectors are headed to hell in a hand-basket... I've never messed with timing, but, I would like to bump it if I am going to check it (if it hasn't slipped too) while im doing the KDP fix.

I am not opposed to changing injectors either, but, I don't want to put stock ones back in it if I take them out (but, I don't want the power of the aftermarket untill I get to my trans) I've done that before on a 24V a power stroke and a 6. 5TD chevy so that doesn't scare me.....

The timing is what scares me... anyone out there in the oakland county MI area ever delve into timing and wanna give a 12V newb a hand (or if someone wants to do it, I'm have a pretty decent mechanical ability, just not a lot w/ diesels) Untill I pop the timing cherry, I don't want to do it un-assisted

I'm willing to pay to have it done, but, I'd rather do it with someone from here and get the learning experience. . shoot. . ill buy the beer!

I had the throdle isuue about a mnth. ago for just a day or two , then went away .
Could be linkage adjustment to fuel shut off .
Then theres the problum of getting a used truck , and not knowing the history .
I'm in the same boat , thought it was stock , the only thing I found was a K&N air filter in the factory air box .
Then I took to a dyno , almost a 100 HP over stock , then found the star wheel all the way forward .
I get some hase also , but you should see my bus when I start it , even in warm weather , 73 Cat 3208 , no turbo , no air heater , no glow plugs , no moskeetos for miles after warm up .

Another thing that I noticedd is that if i burp the throttle when it is cold that it will stgall some times before I build up RPMs slowly. I mean if it is very cold... if I have to move it in the middle of the night for my roomate to get out of the house or something I will just throw it in gear and go and sometimes it salls. I dont know if this is an indicator of anything or if that is normal operation of a cummins, the ol atom smashin 6. 5LTD chevy that I had never did that even when it was below zero outside.

Are you pluging it in at night ?
Not sure because mine only did it a couple times , never got a chance to find out why .
Do you know if your heaters are working , maybe they'er not .
If it keeps happening , do a search for fuel shut down solinoid linkage adjustment , you may want to just use the " linkage adjustment " in the search .

Depending on how bad the smoke is, it sounds perfectly normal to me.

Where is the idle speed set at? The idle screw does wear down, and it takes very little to drop the RPMs. IIRC, it should be 750rpms in drive, with the a/c on. Have mine around 800-850rpms.

Where do you live? I have a friend or 2 (and fellow TDR members) in Chicago that has a timing kit.

I have a timing kit, but I live about an hour south of Toledo in Tiffin. On the map follow 20 east and then 53 south, you'll see it. Let me know.

Thanks guys for the offer, I might take one of ya'll up on it. I think I might've found another dude about 25 miles away tho that has one.

What's up with having to feather the throttle to get it started/stay running? For the first 15-20 seconds?
