White Mountains of New Hampshire

We have talked, and given the school and sports things my sons want to do, there will not be a long trip in 2016 as we did in 2015.

A two or three week trip to the White Mountains of New Hampshire is planned.

Any recommendations regarding hikes, campgrounds, etc., are requested and wecome.

I did a job up there a few years ago for the US forest service, working on brickett place, the oldest structure that the USFS has in their possession. We stayed in North Conway NH. A lot of good trout streams, good breweries. Think it was sandy that took out a bunch of the old covered bridges unfortunately couple yrs back. Definitely see mt Washington. I hiked it rather than drive it was fun. In June it was in the 70s at the trailhead and upper 30s on top and all I had was some blue work pants and a t shirt. Kankamagus highway is cool, will take you into Vermont I think it was Woodstock? Neat town

When we are in the area we stay in Brownfield, Maine which makes the White Mountain area very easily accessible. Plus you are within an hour of Portland if you want to do some coastal stuff as well..Also very close to North Conway, NH.

I grew up handy to Gorham, NH and that entire area is just beautiful.

Then you avoid the higher priced campgrounds and have full hook-ups...check it out on the maps.

Kancamagus highway is more fun without the trailer hooked up. Bear notch Rd is a good shortcut to Attitash of the Kanc. Try the Alpine slide there. Cannon mtn tram is great. Mt Washington auto Rd and auto Rd museum or the Cog Railway. Across from Mt. Wash is Wildcat Mtn. Ski lift runs year round. Don't forget Clarks Trading Post. 1950s style tourist trap but I always stop.

Thank you all. Now have plenty to start researching and planning with. I have gotten as far as learning that hiking is, for all practical purposes, endless.
