Need some electrical help

You Don't Drink It, So What Do Fish Do?

We have been using a humidifier for some 'white noise' to help sleep at night. I could live with or without it. But it helps my wife alot and also keeps out 115lb dog from hearing outside noises and barking as he sleeps in the same room with us. The humidifier was good while our little one was having some congestion but now it is a pain in the butt to remember to empty in the morning and always haveing to wash it. So we are looking into 'White Noise Machines' and was curious if anyone has had or still has one and if they like it? We do not want any nature sounds or waves crashing, etc.

I have had a white noise machine forever, well it seems like forever. When I first got it from Sharper Image in the early 80's my wife did not want it. After the first night she was hooked. The only time it has been off was the day we brought our new son home. The sound machine as we call it was off so she could hear if our son was breathing. One year to the day it suddenly came back on too my surprise. It has been on ever since, that was 17 years ago. What I mean by on is 24/7. She forgets to turn it off during the day. I do not touch it as to volume of sound or type of sound. She who must be obeyed (swmbo) says so. It is set to ocean waves. In and out all night. The one I have is very old but still works. The new ones have more features, type of sounds, etc. Now my son has one in his room, but he does not use it much.

I use a fan to mask tinitus. Have considered getting a white noise machine as well. I have tinitus from a racing crash in 89 and I was deaf in that ear for about 6 months - now have 70% hearing in it. I definately have to have something making noise otherwise it's like sleeping with an alarm clock in your head.

When I was doing some night shift work, I slept best in the summer with the window air conditioner running. Come a change in seasons, I used two 110 volt muffin fans.

I'm hardly ever a "me too" kinda person, so why change now?

My wife used to use a white noise machine to mask sounds in her apartment complex (before we were married). When I would spend the night, I had a hard time getting to sleep with the noise going. Once I fell asleep, though, it was fine.

That said, it was probably due to me not being used to it. I've seen the white noise machines with the spinning part inside that gives a "whooshing" sound. That one would probably be ok. The staticky "shhhhh" sound that I referred to earlier just got on my nerves.

How about an old dog that snores???? 10 year old Chesapeake works for me, of course the sound and smell from the other end can be counter productive to a good nights sleep!!!!!!!!!

But the dog is blamed for a lot of things, that go bump in the night!!!

I also just use a big box fan on the floor. After too many miles in the truck sleeping when I get home I need some noise to help me doze off. White noise machine's are ok,but, its alot easier to just find a cable channel or TV station off the air for it... ... ... ... Andy
