white paint under my black paint????

My son has a black 2000 RAM that he bought new last May. I was with him when he bought it. I was sanding a sscratch to prepare forv touch up paint when I went through the very thin layer of black and came to WHITE!!! Surely MOPAR doesn't use white primer on black trucks! And surely there's more than one thin coat of the colr coat! Tell me it ain't so!!!

I have a 1996 black Ram - it's white underneath, as well. I wouldn't worry about it.

My 1989 Dodge Spirit ES Turbo had Metaflake Maroon bumpers under the white! Seems that the boyz at Dodge decide what color will be the most popular and paint a BUNCH of parts up!

BTW my 89 was ordered and it took longer than normal, some of the interior items were originally gray but were painted tan for me!

This is a major sore point I have with my Black truck... paint chips stick out like a hooker in church. I wish I bought a white truck to hide the wear and tear... JB

DC will re-invent the auto, the new KIT purchase. They will sell us everything and we paint the vehicle and put it all together! What a concept!

That's the way DC saves money painting our trucks... a very,very thin base coat,then lots of clear.

I agree about the white primer. Its dumb. Only an American manufacturer would do something that dumb. All the nicks and chips in my otherwise gorgeous truck stick out like that church example. I some places the paint is so thin I can see primer through the paint. No kidding, it almost looks like a metal flake paint job on one of sides right above the S in SPORT.

My Pat. Blue was so thin on the top edges of the bedrails you could see the primer through it.

Regarding fine scratches, I've found you can polish those out with a good scratch remover, even though it appears to be clear through the topcoat. For rock chips, I got touch up paint from Schucks and use a fine paint brush to carefully "fill" the "holes" which works good. Patriot Blue is a pretty color but will scratch & chip if you look at it wrong #ad

lots of clear??? not on my son's truck! looks to me like they used white house paint for primer, and lots of it!!!
