Took it to the Jim Click service dept. today.....

and they didn't fix anything.

Pulled in to the service drive at 8:55 a. m. Finally got someone to talk to me at 9:20 a. m. Left there at 9:30 am.

Got a call at 3 p. m. and was told they had to have the truck overnight so they could see the white smoke for themselves. I asked why and they said they couldn't work on anything until they saw the problem themselves.

I asked about the door seals they were supposed to replace and was told they didn't have them anymore. They had "sold" them to someone else and had to order more (this after they had assured me they had them and would be able to install them).

The firewall insulation that's coming apart didn't get fixed - they say "mice" did it and they refuse to fix it under warranty. I asked how they knew "mice" did it and they say they just know because Dodge insulation doesn't tear like that.

I told them to forget it and I'd be down to pick it up. I need a truck for work.

I got there about 30 minutes later, just in time to see the service advisor and the mechanic with my truck out front, hood open, and them feverishly trying to find evidence of mice droppings under my hood. They called the service manager, who proceeded to give me a lecture about "warranty fraud" being "illegal". He said "Our owner won't tolerate warranty fraud. " He then tells me there is no "technical service bulletin" on the white smoke and rough idle, and that they can't just do a "flash" for everyone that comes in that "heard there was some technical service bulletin out". I won't bore you with the rest of the details, but suffice to say that I laid into him. Dropping the ball on my door seals, not telling me they had to keep the truck overnight, and then insinuating that I'm a common criminal because I want my truck fixed under warranty set me off. Go figure. I told him I'd call Chrysler and complain (for whatever good that will do). I'm suddenly very disappointed in this Cummins and the crappy Dodge service.

I didn't trust service departments when I went in there and this just validated why I don't trust them. I know they're not all bad, but here in Tucson we don't have one heck of a lot of choices.

This service manager was finally advised by one of his techs that there was in fact a TSB out for the white smoke. He then changed course and did a 180 (real slick talker) and told me that there was no "guarantee" that a "flash" would fix it, and that a flash was likely to just cause other problems anyway. I told him I strongly suspect one or more bad injectors, and he admitted they've had a ton of problems with injectors. He said some of the reman'ed injectors they're getting are junk and have to be replaced as soon as they're installed. Then he warned me that if they started looking at injectors my truck would be in the shop for "a long time" because "injectors are expensive". He asked me if I spent a lot of time traveling through New Mexico and Texas. He says bad fuel in those two states are causing a large percentage of the injector problems???? Sounded like more excuses to me. I told him I always fueled up at Flying J anyway and I never got any bad fuel.

Bottom line - taking it to Jim Click was a total waste of time. Complete joke.

I called and asked for the contact info for the "District Service Manager". They tell me there is no such thing. Does anybody know for sure if there is such a person? Thanks!

Yes their is , look in the back of your owners manual I think it is listed there. They will usually tell you what day he is coming thru. I don't know what this dealers problem is!!

Mine was reflashed a year ago. It still smoked through the remainder of the winter; during the summer months it didn't seem to smoke, however, now that its cold again it seems much worse. I haven't timed it but I bet its a minute or better. Its bad enough that I open the man door as well as the overhead door in the garage to ventilate.

I'd like to take it in, but I am concerned about the mods... what are you saying or do you strip it down before taking the truck in??

Thanks

Hey guys,

What do you think the EPA and state smog people would have to say about this?? DC has to make sure these pass smog . Pull out the warrantyinfo book page 44 Maybe they can be burned this way

I'll call that 800 number in the morning. Thanks.

Regarding the mods... ... I actually don't have any. I've left it completely stock. When I had my modified Chevy I would just program it back to stock, take it in, and then reprogram for high performance when I got it back. I don't know where you live, but it really looks to me like they're looking for any reason to get out of doing anything to fix this problem.

I'm going to try the Marvel oil concoction another TDR guy sent me on Thursday when I go to Flagstaff on a delivery. He says it cleared his up.

1 bottle of Power Service diesel clean.

1 bottle of Red Line injector cleaner.

12 oz of Marvel Mystery oil.

Then fill up the fuel tank.

He said to drive it like I stole it and it should clear up. He had the reflash and said it didn't work. He did this afterwards. I'm willing to try about anything short of renting an unemployed New Orleans voodoo princess at this point. I'll post if it works (even if it doesn't).

It didn't work. Put the $20 cocktail in the tank filled it with diesel, then ran it 300 hard miles pulling a big tractor and a backhoe (about 14,000 pounds). Got home last night, started it this morning, and it's just as bad if not worse  .

I give up. I can't afford to leave it with a dealer for days on end to run their "tests" to "verify" there is a problem (no Mr. Dealer, I just like to make up problems, shut everything down, and bring my truck in here to get worked on and possibly screwed up worse than it already is, it's just a great way to spend a day  ). I'll just run the crud out of it and if the engine blows they can put a new engine in it. I have zero confidence in any of the bozos at these two Tucson area Dodge dealerships, so hopefully it will break somewhere else.

Anybody know of a decent Dodge service department in the Phoenix area? I'd be glad to take it up there if I could get a real diesel tech to look at it.

I've been noticing the past few weeks that I'm having this smoke problem too. Also have a ticking sound at part throttle when just starting out in the morning (and it's only about 30 degrees here in the morning).

If the factory injectors are so bad, how about aftermarket ones? Are they any better? It may be dumb to ignore free new ones but I don't want to have to take my truck in 3 or 4 times and leave it a couple days each time as I've had to for almost everything else I've had to take it in to the dealer for.

I called the dealer here in Ogden UT earlier this week. He asked where I filled it up last, Flying J, and said thats the problem, fill it up somewhere else and let me know if the problem persists.

I'm sure thats what they tell everyone regardless of where it was filled up last.

I think that's their factory-trained built in excuse for buying time. The service manager here in Tucson asked me the same thing. He said fueling up in New Mexico or Texas was a problem  .

I think the tactic is obviously to stall and hope we get frustrated and give up or run out of warranty coverage. They don't like replacing these expensive injectors. This service manager was at least honest enough to admit that to me.
