White smoke on start? Interesting info from owners manual

If you are getting white smoke on start you might want to read the owners manual. It says if you start the truck before the wait to start light goes out, the after start grid cycling is disabled. This would definitely cause white smoke. Especially if you go through two heater cycles, and start before the second cycle ends. It also says to keep key off for more than five seconds when using two or more grid cycles, or it is again disabled.

FYI, there is a TSB out which addresses a puff of white smoke when the temp is below 50 it also adjusts the calibration for the overhead computer and gives an additional 1-2 mpg. I had the white smoke issue and the TSB - reflash corrected this problem. My mileage is around 18 mpg around town and keeping it under 70 on the hiway.

I would venture a guess that not only has Sag2 been aware of the TSB but he has probably done the flashes for a few trucks :)
