When I Start Up Truck And Don't Let Warm Up It Stalls A Little And Blows White Smoke On Point Of Clutch Release I Have Straight Piped It And Has A Retro Fited 8 X 10" Long Filter Would This Have Anything To Do W/ White Blow? But Remember Its Only When Its Cold On Down The Road When It Warms Up Its The Same Old Grayish Black , I Don't Have A Fuel Plate Yet And I'm Scared To Try And Grind My Own W/ Out A Back Up

41jay,

I have/had a similar problem with my truck. But I was also down on power, boost and black smoke. I just last night replaced the ruber line between the fuel strainer and L/P, replaced the Overflow valve, replaced ruber afc line, serviced the fuel strainer and put on all new fittings for afc line.

Chances are your sucking air upsteam the lift pump. But the overflow valve can also act this way. Do a search, lots of info on this forum.

Do you smell fuel? Check all lines back to tank.

they say hi speed fuel pumps will mess up your fuel guage but i still us them , its a time issue 2 min or 15 you know when i fuel up some diesel leaks from the neck of the tank could this be my air leak or do i just have too big of a filter? my dad said it was getten too much air two of our old cotton pickers ( deeres ) blow grey smoke not black but grey maby its nothing

no i don't smell fuel under the truck I smell oil from the oil pan leaking but i do have fuel coming out my stack about 4 " around the stack is black

The air leak they are talking about would be in your fuel system not the air cleaner. If the hose that the fuel flows through after the lift pump (fuel pump) on the drivers side of the engine has pin holes in it or rotted it will suck air and cause some of the problems you are having. You can't have to big of an air cleaner. On my truck if I have any fuel leaks up at the engine or at the transmission I will have oil spots on my tailgate. Hope this helps

What is your idle speed set at? If you have an auto transmission, it should be 750RPMs, in drive, w/A/C on.

How much white smoke, and how cold is it? Some is normal, depending how cold it is.

If the timing is retarded on the fuel injection pump, you will have more white smoke also.

no its not any thing like that or that bad even. Its when I drive it cold the first coupl minuts it blows white. but it doint do it just idelen i have to gas it before i see the white smoke

Mine made white smoke when cold, missed a lot with a little rpm. It all stopped when I took the timing from 12. 5 to 16. 5 degs. All better now, and picked up about 1 mpg.

Hell I Don't Know How To Change The Timeing Ireally Don't Even Know Where The Fuel Plate Is Located. I Can Change The Filters, oil, brakes, ball Joints And Stuff But When It Comes To Degres And Timeing And Internal Stuff I'm Alittle Irry Of That Sorta Thing
