White Smoke

OK... ... ... . This is the first time my truck has done this and I am wondering if it is normal? I started the truck after being plugged in for about 6. 5 hours and it went up to the high idle and let it warm up for about 4-5 minutes... ... ... ... . I noticed when I was backing out of drive there was a lot of white smoke and also when I started down the street LOTS of smoke but once I got going it was gone.

Hopefully I didnt hurt anything by letting it warm up a little.

I actually posted the same question a couple of weeks back. So my take on this is that these new engines smoke white smoke when they are cold.



One thing I would ask is how cold is it? Because I wouldn't expect it to go to high idle after being plugged in for over 6 hours.



Do you plug in often? Do you think that your block heater works?

The high idle seems to be a function of IAT and is independant of engine temperature. I pulled into a convienient store last week after driving 20 miles with the engine at full operating temp and when I came out it was high idling. Ambient air temp about 25°.

Mine makes barely any smoke when it's in the 20s, when it's below 0 it makes a fair amount of white/bluish smoke.

I'll be plugged in all night and have warm air in the truck and I'll still get some white smoke when I pull out of the garage. What causes it the be white?

Not when the engine is cold.

It has been in the low teens here at night... ... ... ..... I also have noticed the same thing I can drive a while 10--15 minutes and pull in some place and if I sit and wait it will go to the hi idle.

I was just concerned about the smoke I had never seen it do this before.

Condensation

Its just a little water condensation that forms inside the exhaust. The result of rapid cooldown of the exhaust system when shutting down the last time it was run. If you feel the exhaust gas temp at the tailpipe, even almost immediately after starting, it is already pretty warm & together with the condensation hitting the cold outside air, will form water vapor.

That makes sence considering that it has been foggy here and it's been doing it a lot worse since it's been more humid.
