All 98 12v's that I have messed with have the aforementioned arrangment (short rubber hose attaching the hard line from the overflow valve to the line and quick connect you mention). Next time you change your fuel filter stick your camera in the void and snap a couple of photos.

I have a friend of mine that his ' 97 is white smoking really bad when it cranks and runs rough for a minute then clears up, auto, 4x4, 160,000 miles any ideas on what to check????

CarlSnyder-

I see you live in Parker, CO, which if I recall correctly, is ABOUT 5500ft elevation. It may not hurt to get your timing advanced to the neighborhood of 16deg- you have a double hit of altitude and stock timing. It will sound different, to say the least, after the timing reset. There are a bunch of shops in the Denver/ C-S/ Castle Rock area; a few of them I might even trust to work on my pickup.

Thanks Daniel, I spoke with Will at ATS and he didn't think 1-2 degrees of advance would be enough, either. Wed. I take care of the KDP. My future plans were to take care of the trans and torque converter, instrumentation. Then move on to engine performance (turbo, exhaust, intake, injectors, fuel pump). Should I take care of the fuel pump timing after the engine changes or before?
