Who actually makes all of the diffrent components in our trucks, does Dodge actually make the transmission,{my main question}, or do other companys, like the radiator/brakes/master cylinder/steering wheel/dash switches~button's/mirrors/seats/bumpers/grill/decals/door handles/ you get my drift, anybody have a clue who the major manufacturers are ? and what does Dodge use that the other brand X's use the same of ?

Parts-is-Parts

Dave, there are some components in our trucks that come from different sources, depending on where you truck was assembled (Mexico, St. Louis, Warren). The manual gearboxes are built in NY state by New Venture Gear Co. , co-owned by GM and Chrysler. There are a couple different suppliers of steering boxes. Would be interrested to know who builds the dash, chairs guages, door panels, etc.

I have been curious about the load rating of the wheels on my truck. Got to looking at them and while I did not learn the weight rating, I did learn they are "made in Brazil"!!

Frustrated me a little, but thats the way it is anymore.

All of the major auto/truck companies are ASSEMBLERS of components supplied by their chosen vendors with long or short term supplier contracts. Here is a "short list" of some D/C suppliers (vendors) to think about as you fall asleep : Cummins Engine Co. , Dana Corp. , New Venture Gear, Rayco, Starco, Allied Signal, Textron, Luk, Fiktel & Sachs, Bosch, etc... .

I got these from an article out of the Detroit Free Press. Tower Automotive = Frame, Lear Corp. = seats, American Axle, and Visteon Corp. = steering components. If you really want to know the whole list of supplers, I would drop D/C an EMail and ask for a list, I would think they would send you one.

Here goes,

Engine- Cummins

Fuel System- Bosch

Water Pump- Made in England

Turbo- Holset

Radiator- Modine

Starter- Nippendenso

Alternator- Nippendenso

Steering Gear- Saginaw

Axles- Dana

Manual Transmissions- New Venture

Transfer Case- New Process

Thats all that I can come up with. I might even be wrong on a couple of the items.

A lot of the plastic items and seats are made by Magna International. They also make the grilles, dash, some mirrors for DC,steering wheels etc. We have one of the seat plants here in town, quite the place.

Tonka makes the shocks for it all around. Leggos makes the front suspension parts. Matel erector sets furnish the engineering for the front end suspension. A drunk in Tijuana is in charge for installing them correctly. The same lady on the Fruit of the Loom underwear inspector is in charge of all linspections. Ain't it great.

Steve H:( ;)

Visteon used to be part of Ford... . Magna is a Ford supplier as well - I worked with Visteon when I was at AlliedSignal (now Honeywell) and we were having Magna make some prototype inlet plenums.

Ain't the industrialized world great - incest at it's finest.
