I'm set to buy an 06 mega Laramie, had major problems when I ordered my 04. 5 with the local dealer. Where is the best dealer you have found (price/no b. s. ) to buy at? I'm located in southern Colorado and would drive to any of the surrounding states to get it. Thanks.

you'll get lots of responses and opinions on this. I went through Dave Smith's in Kellogg, Idaho. Got a great deal with no hassles. From my end, I highly recommend them. They did a turboliner for the bed and added a fifth wheel hitch. . all ready for me when I flew there from San Diego. Even with the cost of the trip and drive down, I still came out about $500 ahead of anything I could do locally. The deal was all done over the phone. No pressure, no BS, straight shooting all the way.

I to am suddenly finding myself in the market for a new truck... My truck and trailer were flipped in a freak wind storm last week. As soon as I get a big check from my car insurance and hell freeze's over ill be ready to buy.

Hopefully ill get enough from the insurance to pay off the trailer and get into a new truck.

Ive been told recently that the federal emissions program gets better MPG than the California program. If this is true i would be willing to travel and pay the extra fees to bring the truck into cal.

Who has paid these fees? and whats involved with importing a federal veh into Cal?

Looks like I'm following Jason around the site tonight! :-laf Give Chuck Gilleys at Carson Dodge in Nevada a call. www.carsondodge.com I haven't dealt with Dave Smith, but have heard good things there too. Chuck has been a good guy for me since 1994. Good luck!

You might try Johnson Auto Plaza in Brighton, CO. Deal w/ Kathy or Linda in the fleet dept. I got mine in 04 for employee price minus rebates.

Sorry to hijack thread.

Jason,

I don't know a thing about importing a truck into CA except what I've read here. I'm not sure it's possable to bring a new Federal vehical to CA for any price. It may have to be registered elswhere and or a certain amount of miles on it before you can do it. There has been alot of discussion here on this subject. Do a search and start a thread with this specific question for the current rules. Good luck.

Back to topic.

Laramie Megas will probably be the first to go at the end of MY sales. Wherever you buy, better get started. I didn't intend to sound like a salesman. Larry Miller in Salt Lake City treated me well on two trucks. There is a small dealership in Afton, WY that I have used as well. They are Salt River Motors. Don't forget about Tommygun, Bigbob, and the other dealer/brokers that post here. You could do a dealer search for the truck you want in the area you will travel and start making phone calls. Good luck.

I have heard of your from Cal, and out of state on a trip, and your car breaks needing repairs above the value of the car, you are allowed to replace it out of state with a federal car. I would guess an accident would count as well, problem is you already went home, not sure if you could still do this.

Aren't all the 06's the same? I mean, the standards are the same for CA or the other 49 normal states. :-laf Probably still have a sticker that says CA on it. I know that border dealers, like those in Reno and Carson, stock and order CA vehicles because of how close they are to CA.

Is there truth to what my dealer is saying, that the employee discount and rebates are all you can get off on the price, or is it a bunch of b. s. ? They can get me the truck I want and say that all prices on these things (depending on how they are equipped) will be dollar for dollar the same because of this program. Thanks.

Superior in Conway Arkansas has been advertising more than employee discounting. They are advertsing about 10,000 off list. I have just started looking and have not tested to see if there is something not being listed in the adds. If you would like to see their adds, check the classsified sections of the Arkansas Democrat Gazzet Saturday paper: they can be read on line.

They are routinely 10-11k off window in the Dallas area. I paid 36,600 plus ttl on a window of 47,450 two months ago and see them for that if not a little bit less. Randall Noe in Terrell, just East of Dallas has more trucks than any dealer I have ever seen. Inventory is usually over 200 Cummins all the time.

I'll agree with COBRAJET Randell Noe has the largest inventory in the Dallas area and I was able to get about 10k off of the sticker price a couple of months ago when I got my 06.

price and California reg

Heres what I bought:

2006 3500 4X4 Laramie "J" SRW SB Quad cab

Options:

48RE

Sunroof

Side airbags

Protection Group

Hood protection

Tow package

Locking differential

heated seats

two tone paint

Cab clearance lights

Sliding rear window

I paid $37,600 (Invoice ~41,700 - $3,000 rebate- $1,000 CFC rebate)

Note that I got the laramie "J", not the "H". THe "H" package has the electronic shift on the fly which I didnt want and mebbe some other stuff I can't remember.

registration in California was a breeze. I will NEVER ever buy from ANY dealer in California, Folsom lake Dodge was so full of lying, greasy sales slobs I would have paid MORE for an out of state truck just to avoid giving them business- as it turned out, I paid less- ALOT less at Dave Smith. Next year I will fly to Idaho to pick up my Viper!

Folsom Lake Dodge still does the "4 square" scam operation- stay away from them!

OK OK, I like most of you all don't trust salesman in the least bit just trying to poke around a bit. Right now I'm at 40,784 laramie H pkg 4x4 mega loaded + or - a few things, sounds like I can do about 3-4k better. By the way, any of you guys have a print out of your invoices to show my guy and call his bluff??, Especially after he swore up and down I wouldn't do better...

CA fees

I've received a couple PM's about Ca registration; so I'll answer them here.

The fees are the same on an out of state truck- (well they're actually a little lower since you're actually paying less for the truck- sales tax is calculated on the sale price). As long as you order the truck with CA emissions (I've read here on the TDR that there is no difference between the CA trucks and the 48 state trucks at least for the 2006 model year) Thats all DMV cares about. You'll have to get a weight ticket from a certified scale at a truck stop. If you can get the truck under 7,000lbs you can save some money on the CA weight fee. I took out the batteries and the tail gate and got her down to about 7300. I think if you take out the back seats and remove the bed you might bwe able to get her under 7k, but i dunno if it'd be worth all that work.

For the truck above I paid $3800 in CA extortion fees. SAles tax, registration, weight fee, VLF fee, etc etc. All the fees are the same you would have to pay if you bought it at a dealer.

A friend of mine registered his in Oregon at his mothers house for 2 years and then re-registered in California avoiding the onerous CA state sales tax and two years of outrageous registration fees. I thinkOregon charges $35 a year- My next year registration for CA will be around $800-$900- sickening isn't it?

Well i found a pretty good price at Dave Smith in Idaho.

I juct cant find what i want, a replacment for what i had except for Mega. 2500 MC 4x4 auto mineral gray Laramie. . Ive located lots of SLT's and a few Laramie, just not in the gray color i had and like.

Anyone know where i can find a Grey Laramie Mega?????? I had the salesman try a dealer locate but he said no one close to him has what i want.

They're giving you a line of BS..... I just bought my 06 a couple of weeks ago with all the options in my sig included... . base MSRP was $47,500 (It's not a larime, but a fully loaded sport with leather, power rear window, heated seats, infinity sound system, bucket seats, best rims, bedliner, window tint, power pedals, everything but nav, sunroof and dual zone ac..... )... plus I added the additional parts (and UConnect)... here's roughly the numbers

MSRP $47,500

Options $ 4,000 (Aftermarket stuff with Install)

--------------------------

$51,500 Total at sticker

Emp Price Disc -$6,000 (Not applicable on Aftermarket stuff)

Rebate -$1,500

--------------------------

$44,000 MSRP minus Emp Pricing and Rebate

What I Paid $40,800

----------------------------

$3,200 below what they're telling you

Bought it at power dodge in Phoenix Az... . large volume dealer

07's are comming out, high volume dealers need to move their inventory..... hell, I probably could have gotten more out of them!

:)
