DUG, I had a horror story with one. Do a search on my name and read up on the posts, then you decide... ..... Sarge

I put one in about 3000 mi. ago,the throw is reduced as claimed but what they don't say is that extra force is required to shift due to the shortened throw. At first I didn't like the extra force required and almost immediately switched back to the standard shifter,I thought with all the work and money that I would try it awhile,it's still in the truck,I always park in reverse trying to slightly bend that pressure washer over time. It has become a head thing,if you ask would I do it again knowing what I now know, the answer would have to be know. The BD shifter is not like the old Hurst shifter. My advice is try before you buy,you may like it !!!!!!

I am also think about putting one of these in my truck 6spd... . I think that the problem that Sarge had was mainly on 01's but who knows... . If anyone has one for a 03 for sale pm me... . thanks

I have one. I love it. The reduced throw is great, but the best improvement I have made is bending the stift lever so that it is closer to the driver.

I have one on my 04 and the truck now has almost 70K miles on it... . I like the short shift..... and one of the posters above is correct. . its a little harder... . I'm having problems from 5 to 6 in my truck..... I've ordered an 05 and don't know IF I'll put one on the 05... . BTW my son just took delivery of an 04. 5 and he already wants one... .

My concern, is that we use these trucks... . and I'm afraid that the BD unit won't go the distance... ...

Hope this has been some help...

short shifter...

15k on mine

love it

wouldn't go back

extra effort is 'hardly' noticeable

were driving big trucks aren't we?!?

I like mine, the shorter throws are nice, I did not notice an increase in effort on my truck.

Big trucks don't have spring loaded shifters similar to the nv5600,I like the short shift I don't like the extra pressure required over the normal shifter,I have too many miles on the"BIG TRUCKS" to go there!!!

trade offs are what I expected, I will drive one before I buy.

extra effort shifting makes sence because lack of leverage you lose on the stick.

I wish one of those TDR events was closer to me.

I too remember the old Hurst shifters, they are sweet.

Thanks for your input

hard shiftin...

True statement Sherman... I guess I really didn't notice much difference in effort, if any at all. I think I will 'bend' mine over a bit too per the suggestion by Jeff K. I'm fabbing up a stand to hold my laptop to the right of the shifter area so the more room the better...

I installed one in my 04 about 2K miles ago. It really helped make the shift between 5th & 6th more positive. The only time I notice any more shifting effort required is when stopped and putting it in reverse. I get around that by snap shifting from 2nd to reverse. I also have a shift knob my son made me years ago that isn't round and it really helps out on the shifts.

Now if I could just find a gage mounting system I really liked :)

Put one in just after I got my truck 12/03. Downshifting was tough (Especially 5 to 4) until I changed the trans fuild to Redline MTL now the combo is wonderful. Presently at 15,000 miles and would do it again, but would have changed the trans lube first.

I have had my short shifter on for several months and really like it. I never noticed any extra effort shifting, just the shorter throw. It was well worth the money, imo.

Anyone have their old stock Shifter for a 5speed that they replaced with a short shift? The 98 and up square patern one. I could really use it.

Thanks

Steve

I put one in at 11,000 miles now have 41,000 LOVE iT, the 6-spd itself is a bit knotchy from factory to me it made a nice difference there as well.

ramtifosi, I have been hearing alot of good things about the Redline MTL in our 6 spds. Is it available in different weights or just one? Still have the stock fluid in and now have 35K on the truck, I'm thinking about changing to redline...
