Agreed...
Agreeed, nice post J. I don't claim to be the best horse trader in the land. My line of thinking was - a) one the one hand I can buy a brand new one that has a reduced potential for wear and tear issues (this is an example, but I don't really know what's possible - bent connector pin(s), broken or cracked connectors, stripped threads on the elbow fitting, cracked or broke EZ box housing, an EZ box that's got soaked during engine cleaning, etc. ). Or, b) buy a used one and take a chance on getting one that may have some wear and tear issues, but that I could save some money on.
But how am I saving any money on buying a used one at $500, when I can buy a new one for $495 (+ shipping)? That's been my basis all along. Of course I don't know what a used one should go for so I started at half. But I even said in my email (as posted previously), that I'd stick to $250 (FOR NOW). That means I was willing to negotiate up, if he was willing to negotiate down. He hadn't given any indication that he was willing to come down off his $500 price, so I didn't give any indication that I'd come up.
Evidently he wasn't willing to negotiate down (which is fine), but he could've just emailed me and told me that. But instead he got on here and publicly flamed me (incorrectly too). So that's where I stand. I'm not trying to step on anyones toes. If a used one is worth more than that, I'll pay it. But as I said from the beginning, I'll buy a new one if his price stays at $500 and I can't find a new one for cheaper than that.
Everyone - Sorry if I have offended any of you guys with my $250 offer. But I don't know what a used one is worth. That was just my starting offer.
