What is the failure mode that leads to low pressure ? With all the dead pumps out there, there must be the curious few who have scattered one looking for the cause.
On one of the pumps I looked at, the pressure releif ball had either migrated to the wrong end of its spring, or it had been assembled that way. Dangdest thing you ever saw!
My lift pump is DOA. Just changed the fuel filter tonight at 42500mi and would not prime. The previous filter change had metal shavings in the bottom of the canister. The pump hums, but no fuel flows. The pump barely primed the last fuel filter change six months ago, but the D-C mechanic said it was fine.
I had to use a hand vacuum pump to prime the filter so the truck could start and move. At least my VP44 still can suck fuel. I am going to chew the service manager's a@@ tomorrow. I was just in there a month ago for an ac fix. The fellow changed a line and forgot to completely tighten the bolts holding the upper bar above the radiator. I have been wondering what a clunking noise was while driving... Just discovered this while investagating under the hood.
I will tear my old pump apart and see if I can tell what was wrong. I have a dig camera so I can get some pics. I will let ya guys know my findings.
