As the world turns - putting things into perspective

Well guys, just was doing some thinking, and thought I would post this one...

Who in your life has the most influence and/or impact on you?

For me, it would have to be my 8th grade science teahcer, my dad, my brother, and my buddy Scott.

They have all been major parts of my life, and have all contributed to helping me get to where I am now. I owe them a lot. Thanks guys! :D

An Irish Priest, Father (later Monsignor) Walter J. McGrain. Always drove a big black buick and took no $**# from anybody. He was a WWII vet, a staight talker with a big heart.

My Mother who is deceased and my Dad who is still alive (83 years old) and doing well. Both were a very influential in my everyday life as well as several Uncles.

Also a man by the name for Earle V Taylor who is still alive, 83 years old, and doing well as my mentor in business.

Happy Trails

This sure is a tough question, Evan. Being influenced by someone can be either good or bad. Maybe I can add a couple of bad in with some of the good that I can remember.

Mom. . who saved my sorry little *** from the perils of life that little boys always seem to endure.

Dad. . who’s skinny belt laced my backside, whenever Mom was unable (or unwilling) to intervene.

The Elementary School Lunch Room Mother. . who threatened to spank my bare butt in front of a room full of my peers, after I dumped a spoon of those yucky green peas into Susan’s milk bottle.

Mrs. Mortimer. . my elementary school principal, whose office I knew well.

Mrs. Walker. . my third grade teacher, who turned me on. She discovered that I didn’t know the full alphabet and made me learn them, then turned me on to reading and had me reading a book a day.

Mr. Magnason. . the special learning teacher who spent six months teaching me to read lips.

Mr. Tokarski. . the eight grade shop teacher, or was it the custom made wooden paddle, with my name on it?

Mr. W. . the youth Minster who told me what Dad neglected to tell me and who got fired for saying the same thing to a teenage girl.

Most of the members of the church that I grew up in. . who made me realize that we are all human after all.

Mr. and Mrs. Pierson. . a gentle old couple and real people of faith, who often took me under their wing for Sunday dinner and apple pie. I became known as the "apple pie boy", when they spoke of me.

Mrs Doc. . who has been at my side through thick and thin through three years of dating and 27 years of marriage.

There are others, I am sure, but memory fades as I age and I’m losing my grip on those who influenced me the most.

Merry Christmas

Doc

Mom and Dad (kinda a given) A Gunny in the Marine Corp. showed me that you don't need to be well educated and at the top of the social heap to be a great person and a great leader. He was one of the best men I have ever known. He was born and raised in Harlem, had a GED. I was a college kid, middle class WASP from Independence Missouri, but we were both Marine Corp "GREEN" Semper Fi Gunny.

I would Say

My Mother , Grandma, Grandpa and Step Grandpa Buss.

All of them have had great influence in my Life.

All of them are a Part of the "Greatest Generation".

My Grandpa (A farmer From Delaware Ohio) Hal Curry Smith Born 1901 Died 1970 Had lied about his age and joined the Army to fight the Kaiser in WW1,He was a Medic. Tried to Join back up WW2, But he was to old.

His Father (My Great Grand father) was a Surveyor for the dept of indian affairs. He had surveyed land around Pendleton Oregon, and Land in Noth and South Dakota for Reservations. And had Traveled the Lewis and Clark trail in his youth.

Much More here, But it would take up much space. .

Doug.

A man who in his all too brief life tried to teach me everything he knew, yet had forgotten more than I will ever know. A man who along with his peers, worked quietly, tirelessly designing 'gadgets' to keep our soldiers safe and our Country free. A man who tried to teach me the humility that the view from the top is great only because of the shoulders you stand upon.

Thanks Dad!!

My mom, at the age of 38 suffered a stroke, which left her without the use of her right arm and leg and with limited speech. She was the carpenter and mechanic in the family... could fix anything. She never believed in the word "can't". Never had a cross word to say about anyone and was very strong in her faith. Sadness was not allowed to linger and self pity was unheard of. She gave me the strength to know I could do anything I set my mind to, no matter what. She left this world at the age of 76 in 1994.

My dad, a tough old logger of over 40 years, was a man's man, but didn't know which end of a wrench to use. (Thank God for Mom). In my eyes no man tougher, yet when it came to Mom, no man gentler. He taught me that nothing comes without a price. Work hard, be honest and what is meant to come to you will come.

My great uncle, who lived to be 95. Never learned to read or write. Lived the first part of his life on a reservation, then moved from logging camp to logging camp. Worked til he was 78, most people not having a clue of his illiteracy. He died before I got my CTD. He would have been proud. He drove only Dodge.

My Mom and my Dad. My Grandmother and Step Grandfather on my Dads side. (Moms parents stayed in Ireland)

And last but not least, Jesus Christ.

I would have to say my Dad (who left this world in April of this year) He taught me how to not break so many things when I worked on them. A first grade teacher, Mrs. Yez taught me how to spell by sounding out words. Most of all is GOD. He healed my marriage, taught me patience with my kids, keeps me sober, and gave me a very good wife. Chris;)

Glad you asked

Jesus Christ, Grandma Larson, first grade teacher Mrs. Sinatra, high school councilor Mr. Mettler and Jeff Barbas, my boss at Mazak Corp. in L. A. So few people are as good as they were/are!

influences

My father; persistance, honesty, a love for this country

My mother; patience, humor, devotion to family

My wife; for making me complete, and agreeing when I traded that Nissan Pathfinder (gutless POS) for a real truck.
