Is it a pain and what can I expect to find under there? My 01. 5 just got lucky with this extra that chrysler had laying around.....

nothing underneath except smooth painted sheetmetal

I pulled all of my moldings off with goof off and the 3m adhesive remover.

make sure you wash and wax afterward to rinse the stuff off and protect the paint.

You can kinda get an idea of what it looks like from the pics in my gallery. If I remeber right there was like 3 pieces of that tape all the way across the whole plastic piece, so be prepared for your thumbs to hurt for a week. And dont push too hard while rubbing it off because those tailgates are sure easy to dent. :(

i had mine pulled of at a body shop that guy told me there was some trucks that had a couple holes underneath it mine did not.

only holes are on the 3500 with center lights. The one Klassen refers to must have had a 3500 gate with a 2500 plastic over the holes. I took mine off my old truck but I painted it at the same time.

Trim

Did anyone remove the tailgate trim in like new condition? A friend of mine would like to reuse the trim if it is not bent or creased. E-mail me if you have one. Thanks, Sam.

plastic trim

one trick you can use is using a hairdryer or heatgun to soften the bond between the tape and the tailgate. this makes removal a whole lot easier, but your thumbs will probably still hurt. solvents turn the tape into gorilla snot and makes a huge mess. i took the molding off of the sides of my truck and that took forever!! the 97 has it on the full length of the truck, good luck.

GGO-GONE works very good for taking the tape goo off.

then buff the whole gate with a cleaner wax.

here's my '94 with the trim removed

Found this thread in a search. I was wondering if there was any reason I couldn't just leave the cheesy trim off. Looks better without it. ;) I'm looking for a replacement tailgate and it looks like I may have to settle for one that doesn't match my black truck, and paint it myself. If anyone knows where I can get a tailgate, please let me know. I want a factory gate, no ching-chong junk, and hopefully black. I bought my truck with a big dent in the gate, beyond being worth repairing it.

Wish I would have known that someof you guys wanted that plastic. I just burned mine the other day in a brush pill. It sure did make some black smoke haha

any of you guys have the trim from the sides and tailgate of a extended cab truck you might wast to get rid of??? pm me if you do, i want trim bad
