Marine Headgasket

From what I have heard most thermocouples are calibrated to be brand specific. For example, I would not run an Isspro thermocouple on a Autometer gauge. JMHO

I agree the auto meter piece is very specific as others may be...

Standard

Thermocouples are a stardard thats not calibrated. Its a fix millivolt
to the proper junction of two (Bi) metals. K, J, R. I etc. The right millivolt range for the turbo exhaust is a K couple.

I think thats a great Idea. With the concern of the tip wearing and breaking off through the turbo, I plan on changing mine on a regular basis. Maybe every 2 years or something. Does anyone else do this.

Has anyone heard of an actual case of an EGT probe breaking off, melting, etc. resulting in damage to a turbo? If so, what were the circumstances?

I have heard this concern before, and people seem to restate this concern as if it is a well known fact, but I've never seen a claim that it actually happened. I am about to conclude that this is just another one of those "urban legends" with a life of its own!

I haven't heard of them breaking off in the pick ups, but my sons see it happen in the semi's that they work on. They don't do much damage there because almost all of them are installed after the turbo.....
