Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Who has the most miles on their FASS fuel pump??

mine has been on for about a year now app. 15,000 miles on it . it died on me an had to be rebuilt costing me a vp-44 :{ . its been rebuilt now for a month or so its ok for now. for the price u pay for the kit it should last longer then a year. i think they could be made a little better :-{} !just my two cents
 
i was hoping there would be tons of people telling me that it had been on for 4 or 5 years with no problems. I guess i'm a sceptic, hard to drop that big money without being sure.
 
Mine failed the first time with about 20,000 miles on it. The motor was fine but something inside (check ball???) wasn't acting right and it wouldn't pull fuel.



A while after that was fixed the motor on it died.



I'm more confident in the stock setup as far as reliability goes, however at least the FASS is capable of moving a good amount of fuel. My 01. 5 will be running stock lift pumps as long as the power stays at a level where i don't have to upgrade. The 02... i wish i had a RASP.
 
I have two FASS systems both on 2002 Dodges, one has 60,000 miles and i havent had any trouble with it, the other has 30,000 miles and no trouble with it either.

I wish i had a RASP, but since i've already spent the money on a FASS I will use it for as long as i possibly can. (I honestly hope it lasts the life of the truck). If it doesn't make it and i need to change i'll let you know.

8-9000 on a filter :confused: I run the 2 micron Napa and changed it after 20,000 with no benefit. Going by sound and post filter pressure gauge but think I am ok. It would be best to look at the pre and post filter pressure drop but I have had no problems yet. What makes you change them. Just curious.



Oh Yeah I had a failure at 10,000. Bad bearing Like that since day one noise just kept getting louder till she failed. Replaced under warranty and blew a fuse 20,000 miles later. Know have about 26,000 on it with good results. I have upgraded the Wiring harness and built a custom fuel module with a 1/2" stand pipe. I think the bugs are worked out now and have good deal of confidence in it now. I would say that it is very hard to beat the RASP but FASS can be made to work well if you take a few extra steps. I also run a Hobbs pressure switch wired to the old Water in fuel light to alert me if pressure drops below 10psi. My personel opinion is that many run too High a pressure with the FASS. I fell better about running 12-14psi rather than 19-22 like some do. Lower pressure should be easier on everything. JMO
 
HMMmmm - 15 users, 5 failures - sounds like the stock LP's might not be so bad after all - a 33 1/3 failure rate sure isn't anything to brag about, especially in an expensive aftermarket setup supposedly designed to *eliminate* the problems common to the stock Carter lift pumps... :rolleyes:

It would be interesting to see what "rev" guys have to see if the unit is getting better as I assume. It is fairly obvious from holding one that the FASS has the potential to be much better than the OEM pump. As with many products it takes several years of real world use to refine it and realize its potential. Sometimes we gotta make em better ourselves. ;)
