Of all the CTDs, it is common knowledge that 1st Gen trucks are superior. Therefore, we have bragging rights on any of the newer trucks. (Any 2nd Gen guys reading this, please return to your accessory catalogs and read about all the stuff that's available to you, since Dodge apparently didn't make trucks prior to 1994. )

So among ourselves, it would stand to reason that the guys with the 89 models would be the tribal elders. Is there any way to determine the age of the truck by the VIN? By the engine serial number?

Who among active TDR members has the oldest truck on the road?

I'd say look on the doorjamb for the date of mfg. On a tie, go by engine number; lower one would reasonably be older. While mine has the engineering of the older ones, mine is actually one of the last non-IC trucks. 11/90; they went intercooled by 01/91 for EPA requirements.

89 here, I'll check the id tag on door jam for build date tomorrow. As far as being superior, well I never got any looks from any CTD owners until I got stacks. Hey I got the early grid heaters, the ones that don't cycle until temps at 15*F or below. A recent TDR issue had a website survey, showed percentages of CTD owners/members/years of their truck. 89's had the fewest like 0. 4% or so, I liked where there were more 93's than 94's, something like 2. 3-2. 1%~. Bill

I only have a 91, but I know a little history about it.

Found out when I called Chrysler last summer asking about that injection pump issue.

My truck was built in Aug 15, 1990. It sat on a dealer's lot for over a year and sold on Oct 31, 1991.

Think a CTD will hang around that long today???

If I remember correctly Cummins or Dodge has the number 1 built '89 in their possession. :D :D don't know if this is quite what you are looking for.

Bob

Cummins, has at their CMEP plant Columbus,IN, what they've labeled a '88' D250 auto 40K+- miles cherry, was told it is one of the first 40 produced. Anyone that has done the plant tour, I havent, probly would have seen it. Bill

Edit, went and looked my DOM 3/89 C. Don't know what the C is for? Bill
