The 271 is a great upgrade there in the later models dodges or can you get one from TCase Exspress for around $1,000 set up the way you want with the bolted rear flange ;)

Transfer Case Express, Inc. · New, rebuilt transfer cases ( transfercase ). Lowest prices. In California, world-wide delivery

Ditto... That's the way I went on mine (going on advice from Scott!), and it has worked flawlessly. The 241DHD lasted about 500 1/4 mile passes, and I already have almost 700 passes on the 271, and it is still going strong. No signs of problems at all.

ok I got a question about the 271. The case works fine and I installed the old vacuum switch in the 271. It doesnt work though. The 4wd light it always on and the vacuum never changes on the CAD. So I just turned the connector around to reverse the vacuum and had the switch it everytime I need the front wheels though. Its kinda nice to have 2 lo whenever but it would be nice if it worked like its suppose to. Is my switch bad or did I miss something on the install?

When I did mine, I ripped the CAD system out and installed the Posi-Lock. If its a dedicated puller weld it up, or better yet upgrade to the larger axles with one piece passenger side.

Scott when you welded that up and used the posilok did you have any problems with it binding up? I have been thinking of welding the carrier in mine since I end up with the one wheel wonder at the end of the track and yes this is a dedicated puller.

Thanks

I never welded mine up, I used the posi-lok and had an ARB. I also had a set of the larger axles for the front with the one piece passenger side but didn't get those installed before selling it, they went with the truck.

Perhaps someone who welded there's will chime in here.

IMO if money weren't an issue I would buy the larger axles and an ARB (no binding just turn the locker off). If money was an issue I would go with the posi-lok and and welded carrier.

I ran a welded carrier in a couple of trucks. It worked great but you can not steer hardly at all in 4x4. We drove onto the track in 2x,got straight with the sled then put it in 4x backed up and hooked. At the end of the track we had to unlock it as soon as we unhooked because you wont get off the track if your hanging weight. You just cant steer in 4x4 with hanging wieght. On Michelles truck we ran 1400 lbs. in the weight box with stock axels and a manuel cad. lock.
