Just curious. I dont hear from many around here anymore. Where do you work, and how long have you worked there. If you dont want to give exact locations, then round-about locations will do.

I work in Austin for the school district police dept. I've been there for the past 7 yrs.

Does it count that I've got applications in with two local departments? One is a Public Safety Dept - combined police/fire - and the other is straight Police. The Public Safety Dept sounds pretty interesting to me. I've got the B-PAD tomorrow at 1PM for the Police Dept and oral interview(s) are being scheduled for the Public Safety Dept.



Any advice for the interviews?



LEO/Public Safety is something I've always been interested in and now that I've been laid off from Agilent (split off from H-P - I was a mechanical/mfg engineer) I'm pursuing the career change. 3/14 was my last day at Agilent... .

Don't show them your quick drawing skills.

Dont talk about using the nigh stick too much while being interviewed.

They dont like hearing that.

Dont fall asleep. At least before they do. Offer them coffee and donuts. Tell them about how much fun it will be carrying a gun. Also, Randomly giggle, and break out in a nervous sweat. All those things will impress them, one way or another.



Really though, just be yourself and speak with them like they are a friend from long ago. Be respectful and to the point on every answer to thier questions. What departments are you applying to??

Santa Rosa PD & Rohnert Park Dept of Public Safety. Took SRPD's written/critical thinking/B-PAD yesterday and find out the whether I passed/failed tomorrow. The B-PAD is a video assessment of your interpersonal/problem solving skills/style. You watch a ~1 minute video scene and then have 45 seconds to 'respond' to a paused TV monitor while you're being taped. It was kind of weird - not bad, just weird.

Any advice for the interviews?







1 st - look the interviewer in the eye when you talk to them-don't look around-at the floor or the ceiling - Police Officers expect people to look them in the eye when they talk to them. Don't tell them what you think they want to hear - be honest. . If you are ever asked to rate yourself on a scale of 1-10 - the best answer is "8" - you aren't; perfect but your are confident (that was one of my favorite questions. . Don't be a rambo . other than that just be honest and polite. .
