I know this is a little off subject but..............

If Honda or Kawasaki would update the CR and KX 500, (modern frame and handling... ... not take a 89 and throw current decals and last years suspension components on it and call it great) I would buy a 500 in a heartbeat. Probably a KX since it uses a power valve.

Or maybe one of those awesome air cooled WR 500. :-laf :-laf Did one ever finish a race without seizing up. :{ :p

I can't belive yer still alive! I useta have a CR500, when I was to young to know anybetter,:rolleyes: Now I have a CR250, I dig it way better than the 500 deathtrap:eek: Must be gettin' old, heck I'm just around the corner from my 33rd b-day, yep, I'm old. :{

Chris, I have no problems with a person experimenting with power mods but feel a little prudence should be exercised here. You have to remember there are newcomers to the diesel world here who would love a cheap/free power fix. How about the family man with limited funds who just bought a 12 valve and wants to pull his travel trailer over the Rockies a little faster? He takes your plateless advice and melts down his engine, there is much more involved here than a little pin. Are you going to cover him? I personally don't feel it's correct to persist in challenging persons with much more experience than you while claiming their motivation is purely financial. It just isn't true and I think you know it, you just use it as an excuse. I don't post here that I use 2x4s on end to prop my truck three feet in the air while working under it. I know it works, it hasn't fallen down on me yet, anybody that tries to tell me different must be an old fart selling jackstands.

I'm the one that started the hole OLD FART thing on this thread it wasn't Chris. So don't blame him for it, I was just trying to lighten things up a little. I will delete it from my repley since you guys don't like it. :( Just remember that all us young guys know a lot more than you give us credit for. ;)

See all better now.

Darrell

Diesel Freak you been talkin' to Kiwi again? He's got one those bad boys.

I had an opportunity to ride it at Reno in February but it scared me:D Or maybe it was 'cause I would have had to fix the flat... ... One of these days I'll get my '90 KX500 running again. In the mean time my '99 WR400 will have to do.

Cummins Corvette:

Quite honestly I don't have an opinion on whether you stick around or not. If you do please abide by what you have said you will do. If you leave - adios.

My question is what is your relevant experience/expertise with automatic trannies & diesel fuel injection pumps? You're going to have a difficult time convincing people when you are contradicting recognized 'experts' in a field. You better be able to bring more to the table than 'I'm poor college student in search of the truth'. What college student isn't poor & in search of the truth? On a side note - you ain't that poor if you're driving a CTD, looking at dropping ~$3500 on a transmission AND you're riding a YZ426. Most the guys I went to college were riding a >5 year old bike if they had a bike at all. If your warehouse job pays well enough to afford this stuff you don't need to bother with a degree and you shouldn't be worrying about saving a buck or two. I know, a really bad attempt at humor.

Good luck with whatever you decide and please grow some thick skin because you're going to need it regardless of whether you stay here or not.

Illflem- I am willing to accept that the plate does have its uses. FOR ME... ... ... ... I will leave it out.

Brian- I can see how something works when I take it apart. I have been taking things apart since I was old enough to hold a screwdriver. Our pumps are amazingly simple (to me) while I don't know everything (yet :-laf ) they are quite easy to understand. Maybe you should take one apart, eh? I would encourage something like that.

Stick around man it only gets better! Oo.

That makes me feel great! And on that pleasant note, I'm going to bed, and I think I will sleep well tonight. You all feel free to let me know if you ever need any help with anything. If I have to drive 200 miles to come pull you out of a ditch, I'll do it. :D

Chris (very, very happy and as always... ... ... at your service) :)

NVR FNSH, there are few things in this world that can get your blood pumping like pulling the trigger on a 500cc MX bike... nothing like 65+ horsepower in a machine that weighs 230#

CC,

I disagree with some of what you post, but I shore feel your pain man!!!

I can't say one way or the other about the TP, but I will tell you that I paid $1600 on a pump rebuild to a guy that claimed TST was full of crap.

It was later dropped to $1300, becuase they ruined my piston. Don't ask. And cost me a head gasket later, plus ran on 5 1/2 cyl for almost a year.

It was still about $1000 too much for what they did.

I have a plate from Piers in there now. A Sled Puller plate,;) I like it.

I did, however, break my truck in with no plate. No damage.

There are only too vendors I have dealt with that are not riding the the hp "cash cow"

Piers, and Andy & Doug.

Yippy Ky yay.

500cc dirt bikes are insane. They are the devil.

Oh yea, and Joe Donnelly IS a Vendor, don't let him bs you.

If he is not, then I am not an oil vendor neither. ;)

Don't mind him...

Don't mind ETH, he's just older than dirt. :D :-laf :-laf :p

Hey Darrell B, don't sweat it, we old farts aren't that thin skinned. :p Hey, what's the cut-off for the old fart designation anyway? I suppose it's all relative, so at 39. 5, I would consider myself in that category standing next to you 24 year old young bucks. ;)

And Vette - glad you're hanging around. You're too young to give up on. Most of us mellow with age. I was a lot more hot headed when I was younger. I still have the occasional rant - especially at work. The difference now is the guys I supervise are entertained by it. :D

Hey Sled Puller,

If you think that a 500cc dirt bike is insane, you should try going 106,on raydar ( buddy is chp ) through the desert over anything on my XR 650... ... ... ... I bet it feel about like making that full pull... ..... :D

Thanks for the tip Bill. I need to get my truck frame rails about 30 inches high to change my transmission. Is four 2X4s (one next to each tire) enough to hold my truck up? :-laf

You guys need to try one of these 426's. They have plenty of torque. If I didn't ride extremely tight trails, I might have gotten an xr 650. They do look like a good baha bike (actually I know they are). Supposedly my bike is only about 7 or 8 hp behind a 500, and trust me, it's a very fun bike!!

Chris

Right on Man

Don't let these guy get you in a wad. I diden't see anywhere in that thred saying they had to take their plate out. It was a suggestion. You keep doing what is in your best interest and if someone else can gain somthing from it, well F------ A.

It's all about INTEGRITY.

Chip

Koa, if you nail a 6"x6" plywood base to the 2x4 it will be much more stable. I usually only do this when lifting more than 4 feet. ;)

You guy's 500s may haul but, but my Trail 90 will go more places. :p :p

CumminsCorvette, are you married yet? Just wait if you want to see:-{} :-{}

Let this list break you in, teach you patience;)

Dont have a big dirt bike anymore, but the old VF1100C Magna could use more power.

My Husaberg 501 was a special factory-built bike for the French ISDE team when they had the race in Oklahoma in 1995. They didn't want to ship it back to France so I bought it with 6 days on it. The guy riding it won a gold medal. I think I have a dyno sheet around here somewhere that shows 62HP. With 6 speeds, I got clocked at 110MPH in the dirt. That was scary:eek:

Man Chris and Gene you guy take this TOO deep!!! Loose sleep over this site??? My best friend was just like you Chris, his life got alot better when he learned which battles are worth fighting. And other battles can be fought but left on the battle field.

Can't wait until the 16th Chris hopefully all goes well in Denver and you'll be back in time to come and play.

Stay dude, when you turn the computer off let it all go... And get some sleep!!!:D :D
