Who is using an aFe Mega Cannon on their 3G?

Dad just bought a new '03 and is considering getting an aFe Mega Cannon. I have one on my 12V and really like the performance.



Would like to hear from those who have one on their 3G and your likes/dislikes and what did you have to pay for it and from where.



Did you notice much of a performance gain if on a stock truck, is there a big sound difference?

I just put one on my '03 CA SO. I didn't notice any power difference, but you can DEFINITLEY hear the turbo a lot more. This is the only mod I've got on my truck so far.

It is tough to say how much power you gain. but you do feel it in the seat of your pants. and there is more turbo music. but not as loud as my 98. 5 was. got mine from doug at smokindiesel.com

I love it. I also put an Outerwears pre-filter on mine. Great setup. I don't know if it helped on it's own, as I still have the stock exhaust. The turbo sure sounds nice though.

Has any one done an oil anlysis to check for silicon?

Not yet for me, I've only had mine for 2 weeks. I imagine I will. But I doubt I'll find anything unusual.

I installed the Scotty III and like it a lot. I am getting 21. 5 mpg on the highway now. Before that, I was getting just over 20 on average. Of course, it has an AFE filter in it. Probably couldn't go wrong either way.

I have been running one for about 5 months. Can't say I see any more power because of it but I have noticed a slight power increase as the engine broke in. Turbo whine is slightly louder-I'm sure the system will help when I add the TST box when it comes out.

I was actually set on the Scotty/Ram Air 3. And I think it probably performs a little better than the AFE megacannon. But I wanted a clear RA3, and they weren't available yet. Basically I got impatient with the cold weather coming, and went for the megacannon. I also wanted to guarantee that Brad Kilby's upcoming onboard air kit would work with it. Having a metal heat shield between the air filter and the sometimes pretty hot York air compressor was a consideration too.



I imagine I'd be just as happy with the RA3.

So what did you decide on the compressor? Will it work with the Scotty III? AFE Megacannon? I assume it works with the stock airbox although I don't see very much room in there for it. TIA

Kilby's york setup (not yet released) is from what I've seen designed to work with the AFE megacannon. I am pretty sure it won't fit with the stock airbox at all. I am not sure about the RA3. I decided to take the safe way out and go with the megacannon since his own truck that he designed it in has a megacannon.

Thanks for the quick response. I've not personally seen an installed Megacannon so I don't know how much room it leaves for the compressor. I considered trying to mount one (compressor) myself because I didn't want to wait but I just didn't see room there with the stock airbox. I guess there is one more thing to add to my list.

I think he is just trying to get the intercooler pipe dealt with (his kit requires a new one with a bend in it).
