It's time for fluid changes from front to back and I'm curious how many of you are using a synthetic ATF?

I was thinking of going with Royal Purple's ATF since it can be purchased locally.

I'm using Amsoil front to back. I have the 75W90 in the front diff, 15W40 in the engine, ATF in the transmission, ATF in the transfer case, and 75W140 in the rear axle. I completed the switch over at about 60,000 miles. At that point my fuel mileage went up 1. 5 mpg. I don't think you can go wrong with synthetics.

I have sampled Amsoil ATF in for 30K miles and it was just fine and very clean. Unfortunately, I dumped without a sample at 60K on the oil and the last time 80K on the oil. It was getting black but did not look that bad.

I switched to synthetic ATF in my NV241HD transfer case not long after I purchased my Ram. The first two times I used Red Line D4 synthetic ATF later, switching to Amsoil Universal ATF. As I have another leaking output shaft gasket and leak at the juncture of the tailshaft housing and the main transfer case, I will be doing this service again very soon. This time I WILL be replacing the output shaft bushing as well! On the bright side, I'm going to add a Fast Cooler to my NV241HD.

Thanks for fullfilling my special request Piers! :D

Sounds like a plan John. Don't forget about them new Lexan covers. They are probably more important on the transfer case. Monitoring that oil level is important when a seal leaking. The transfer cases hardly ever are damaged unless they get low on oil, unless you have toooo much HP. The extra oil is nice but not as necesary with the transfer case like it is with the tranmissions.

Amsoil since 30,000, now at 120,000. Bombed and abused.

Just installed the stubby FAST COOLER with the Lexan cover.

Very neat, nice to see the oil.

Very close to 4" exhaust, about 3/8"

The Fast Coolers are not really neccesary for the transfer cases as they do not have a heat problem like the transmission have. What is neccesary is the ability to check the oil level so easily with just the Lexan covers. The web site is at www.fastcoolers.com The coolers for the transfer case are not listed as it is only one cooler instead of a set like for the transmission. They are about half the money also. The extra oil is always a good idea. I guess I need to update the website again.

Amsoil synthetics all the way through the drive train for 140,000 plus miles. Mag-Hytec differential cover on rear and Mag-Hytec Transmission deep pan on transmission. Couldn't be happier, and you can have the oils sent directly to your address.

Been using Redline MTL in the transfer case since truck was new. Also use it in the xfer of the wife's Jeep Wrangler. Protects gears better than ATF, and both 'cases operate more smoothly. No leaks.
