i'm thinking of removin the cat on our new 600.

we have farm registrations and don't have to go through inspection/emissions.

have any of you pulled the cat and left the muffler? if so: how does it sound? any increase in MPG? thanks... . james:D

Maybe OK

TG - regardless of farm registration, you may be okay taking the CAT off. As I understand it, unlike the rest of New England and downstate NY (greater metropolitan area) CT hasn't implemented LEV-II emissions requirements. The 305/555 was legal for CT, so even without the CAT, the 600 may be emissions improved... .

Of course I don't know whether removing emissions equipment would in and of itself constitute some kind of violation of the law:rolleyes:

Just FYI and my 0.02

Under Federal Law, it is illegal to modify the factory exhaust system in any way. This means that anyone who has changed out there exhaust system is in violation, me included.

If you want to be sneaky about it, pull the cat off the truck, cut it open, cut out the guts, sew it back up, and put it back on the truck. Then they have to look hard to prove anything has been done to the cat and this accomplishes the same thing (remove the restriction). Seen many "modified" cats.

I remember when pondering weather or not to trade my truck into a dealership they brought out this paper that I had to sign, stating that I altered the emmissions system in any way. Needless to say I didnt sign it, and I am still driving my pride and joy.

i just dont know...

can anyone of you actually say you have been stopped and checked for a cat? i can understand at emissions tests but for random stops?i being a farmer means my farm equiptment dosn't have to comply to emissions regulations. i guess i'll be the first one to yank that cat off. i'm not looking for better fuel milage, just a diesel that sounds like a diesel. i know i won't be hurting anything by doing it. who knows, maybe i'll have lower EGT's and a little better mpg. i'll let ya know... james:D

who killed the cat??

... ..... Schroedinger... ... ..... Who knows unless you look and who looks if they know, the cat may be alive or the cat may be dead, both cats actually exist... ... ... Thats two physics answers in a week:confused:

I have ,My trucks are license commercial here in MN and commercial vehicle enforcement get the mirrors out all time right with the ground pressure checkers.

What about the engine sticker? Seems these Cat equipped trucks are coming through with the catalyst box marked "NO"

My CA SO says no in that box yet the sticker is specific to a CA model.

Another odd thing is that the factory shop manual does not show a Cat for the CTD.

So in reality there is no vehicle data saying it has to have the Cat yet we all know you are not suppose to modify emissions.

For those that have emission inspections what would happen if you popped the hood and pointed to the catalyst box marked "NO"?
