My steering is loose in the truck. Dodge says I need a new tracking bar and pitman arm. I have heard of a few company's selling miracle tracking bars to fix the "loose" steering in dodge trucks, who makes em' and are they as good as there said to be?

Thanks

Kurt

You don't have a track bar if the truck is a 2WD. Your steering is loose probably because the sector shaft coming out of your steering box is wearing out. Your probably going to need a new steering box and you may want to invest in the DSS steering stablizer to prevent any future steering issues.

Try posting this in the "No engine/Transmission" 12v threads since this is the engine/transmission thread section. :)

Try adjusting the pre-load per a TSB. Enjoy your non track bar (lateral rod) independent front suspension.

If he is refering to the cab and chassis model 3500 (2wd) he certainly does have a track bar and the pitman arm from a 4x4 truck (its a straight axle similiar to the old Ford Superduties). Look at a Dodge Ram 2wd tow truck, its usually a cab and chassis. .

I like the Solid Steel Industries track bar bracket and third gen truck track bar . . About $400. (search under DSS or Darin's Steering Stablilizer)

The luke's link or Lindstat alignment pieces are good too if the track bar's tie rod end isn't worn too badly.

Good luck

Oh, yeah, forgot about those 2WD 3500s.

So, you may or may not have a track bar depending on the chassis model. :)

3500?

Signature says ¾ (ton) 2wd. Re-reading the original post leads me to think idler arm or cross link, not track (lateral) bar.

Kurt;

I hope we're not scaring you away from posts. Sometimes the regular posters jump on solutions before finding the true problem. (Been there done that guilty as charged. )
